I have pushed home my last gen 2.

Does anybody know of some kind of off the shelf warning light I can install on my gen2s. Maybe if it does not detect at least 13 volts while running, it throws a light.

If not, Im going to try to make one. Should be an easy enough DC circuit.

One of the guys installed a small digital meter on his and did a nice post of it, maybe someone can find it and link it, I think that would be the easiest and best way to go. Think it was on a gen 4 but could be wrong.

Found the post, it was Brian that did it. I was thinking a display aboot that size would fit nicely just under the speedo (round gauge cluster) and to the left of the idiot light bar, just enough room to tuck in and still look like it belonged there. I would like to know what the system is doing rather than just have a light to inform me of impending doom and an aerobic workout. Here is the link.

    ......................................................

I bought a small $6 alternator testor at Harbor Freight with a series of 6 lights corresponding to voltage level and mounted it on the right inner panel. It puts out a cool light show in several colors, and you always know what's going on down in the voltage factory.

    Size: 4 1/2" X 1"

I'll get a photo up soon........

its fairly simple to build a low voltage light if thats what you want, [IMG]

eg you want 11.6volts to sound the alarm. then use 130ohm and 3.7kohm resistors for R2 the arrow on R2 refers to the connection between the two resistors in the fixed voltage divider

and yes you could buy something like this but this is quick to build and cheap, about $5cnd from radio shack.

If you build several of these circuits with different voltage dividers then they could be setup to display on a bargraph type LED display giving you an idea what your batt volts are.

You might want to try a waterproof sealed-type like here for your gen 2.

No dash space to really slip it under, I have mine loosely mounted on top with some blue tack until Chuck decides to ship my fairings and I can permanently place it with a switch.

I had the same problem, RR went out and I got stranded. Luckily I push started it, got halfway home and it stalled. Push started it again and got home.

I installed a little voltmeter I got from Stinger online for about $20. I did a quicky install tapping into the running light wires. I then used the internal calibration screw to make sure it matched what the battery was seeing.

If you want a smart "idiot" light, check this out for $25.

I bought a Chinese one locally for about $10 of your money. I run it straight off the battery with a switch. Photo0009.jpg

Yeah, I still have to hook up mine directly with a switch, make sure when you do that you slip in a small fuse inline or else you might fry it with a surge.

Watch me do my Squirrel impersonation here:

"What did you buy that for? Its a piece of Chinese junk!! Junk, I tell you, Bunky!. When your battery boils away and you're left standed on teh side of the road, its because you went with Chinese junk! What's next, you gonna install some All Balls?"

    That is all.
