Silver may be the fastest, but red definitely has the most horsepower.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Sorry for the lack of deets. She's Pearl White with 3000 miles, and factory side cases. I just ordered a Sargent and a Shorai battery because something funky is going on with the current one. It'll start and run but the light fluctuates and the clock is never right. I'd like to get some cruise control, and HID's (been running them on my KLR and they're great!).

Sounds like a nice set up with side cases. Would definitely like to see some pics.

Now, before you go throwing money at a battery, lets check a few things out here.

First, I believe that the 2002 up to and including 2006 had a couple of recalls done on them. One of them involved a wiring harness that I believe affected the lights, blinkers etc. You can find out if this recall was done a couple of ways. 1. The VIN would have been punched, indicating the work was done. 2. Contact your local Honda dealer, give them the VIN, and they can run in and let you know if it was done.

Try using the search function in the upper right corner to get some more details.

Separately, you need to check your charging system out, specifically the regulator rectifier (R/R). There has to be about 5000 threads on this forum about the R/R. The greatest downfall of our beloved VFRs is probably the R/R. If you don't own a voltmeter, go buy one. ASAP. If you own a VFR, you need to own a voltmeter. And a trickle charger.

To summarize, you need to charge the battery overnight on a trickle charger. It should read no less than 12.6V when fully charged, and its better at 12.8 to 13.2 Then bring it to a place and have it load tested. If it fails, obviously replace. But you also need to check your volts on the bike.

Hook the battery up to the bike, and check volts at (warm) idle. Should be low 13V.

Increase RPMS. Once you get to 2000, it should be 14+V (up to about 14.8 or so).

Check at 5000 rpms. Needs to be mid to high 14, and remain steady. Dropping by 2 tenths is OK (14.8 to 14.6), but if you fluctuate all over, its bad news.

    Check out this thread.

Do some research before you plunk down $150 on a new battery that might only get toasted a week later.

Good luck and keep us posted.

An Pearl white 06 with only three thousand miles on it. I gotta be dreaming. I had that on mine within a month of owning it. We should trade. All my problems were fixed while on an extended ride. Wished now that I had gotten the factory bags when I bought mine.

Welcome and post up pix so I will know what mine used to look like when it was still a virgin.
