Hey guys, it's been awhile since I've posted but I have a question for those of you more knowledgable about these 6th gen bikes than me. If there's a thread that answers this question I didn't find it via search. Anyway, my 2007 with just under 15k on it no longer fast idles. I know it's summer so the warmer temps contribute to it, but after sitting outside all day when I start it up to commute home it fires and idles around 1100rpm until its to operating temp, then it idles at its normal 1500ish. There is no PGM-fi light or anything that would clue me in to the problem. The bike is bone stock except for new rubber and a new Honda air filter (idle problem existed before I changed it out) What do you guys think?

Mine only fast idles when the temp is below 70. On a warm day, in the sun, it fires up with the same low lopey, but responsive idle, and steadies out just a little when fully warm. I think when I looked in the service manual, that was perfectly normal.

If she has suddenly started idleing abnormally when cold it is most likely related to your fast idle wax unit, located with the throttle bodies. It is much like a thermostat except it controls your starter valves to facilitate faster idle when cold. Has coolant running through it just like the thermostat.

It just seems strange it idles at operating temp at a faster speed than a cold start- even in ambient temps above 75 or so. Ill have to research the wax valve thing

I figured it used an idle air control motor like the cars do...

I belive the starter valves work in place of an IAC that we are used to on cagers. It idles faster once warm because the fueling becomes correct once the engine reaches operating temprature. The wax unit basically works as a choke or enrichening circuit works with carbs.
