Hello. Yeah, the cosmic network of Sod's Law has struck and my after-market R/R has passed away.

I recently fitted a brand new battery cos I thought that was the issue, but the R/R's taken it out.

I've ordered a MOSFET unit from Electrex and my question is; do I need a new battery, or can I simply charge the existing one and live happily ever after?

    Oh, it's a '99 Fi-X.

    In yellow........the fastest colour.

    Thanks and regards

I will once I get home. I'm on holiday in Devon, on the opposite side of the country to me, at the moment. The new R/R will have arrived whilst I'm away and I can get working.

We've only been gone a few days but I'm used to riding my bike(s) every single day and I'm starting to feel a bit pre-menstrual!

I am going to be a-hole and tell you straight! So you started a thread asking if your battery still good? Like WTF couldn't you fking test (charge) your battery 1st?
Are you asking to advise you on a issue that ONLY you can find the answer?
Don't ask if you should feed your pet!

    Benefit of the doubt?..

Maybe the OP doesn't have a charger. Maybe (as he mentioned), he bought the new battery, and found out "no dice". So now hes left with a new battery, and the existing one... then asking the question (in a round about way...) "Should I try to recharge my existing one, and return the new one, now that I have a working R/R?"

Maybe stretching, but I'll give the OP a chance to... wait what is in your signature Rubo!? Hello Nurse!

Ohhhh! Keep your fucking Alan's on, sunshine!

I just wanted to know if I should expect to have to cough up for another battery.

    read the op again!
"I recently fitted a brand new battery cos I thought that was the issue, but the R/R's taken it out"
There is only one battery!Polish your reading skills.Don't make assumptions.

    "Benefit of the doubt?"

doubt for what?I love logic.I play chess because its logical. There is no doubt because he has not taken the very 1st step of charging, testing the battery!!!!
There is no excuse for elementary!

Perhaps I ought to have been more articulate. Sorry, Rubo, for the outburst.

    ok, calm down there boss.

Squirrels post vs the one you posted, may have the same point, yet his delivery is far more respectful.

I'll also be blunt, given that's what may be the only thing understood. People come to these forums for help. They aren't all expert riders. They aren't all top notch mechanics, its even possible a majority of them don't even have the necessary tools to work on the bikes they purchased for their use. I dunno the person behind the user name Rubo yet, since Ive been gone so long, Id like to get to know you before I form my own opinion... The same consideration should be given to all the newer users who come to these forums for help.

Point is.. I fail to understand how being... how'd you put it?

, just for the sake of being able to do so.

BTW, thanks for pointing out the single battery. I was wrong. I read the OP a little differently. Good catch.

You're fine dude. No one expects internet and forum users to be grammar experts, nor have all the answers. Its fine to come to this vast community seeking advise and ask questions. There's always been a lot of knowledge here. And when youre close to your ride (as you noted) away on holiday too, its only natural to wonder. Good engineering is good planning. Doesnt hurt to ask the questions and try to plan. What was it our parents used to say to us..

If all that was damaged / bad was the R/R you should be fine. You're gonna want to double check the electrical connections in the charging circuit just to be certain there isnt further damage in the connectors themselves. Squirrels comment is spot on. Do you have a charger? Get it on a charger, or take it to a local automotive parts or bike shop, and ask them to test the battery if you arent sure, and want to be certain.

GL, let us know how it goes... ^^ Clearly, several of us now have a vested interest. :)

    It aint no thing Rubo.

Two things I love about this community forum over any other, and the reason why I came back.

    1. We all realize there is a human on the other side of the keyboard... not just a screen name.
    2. (Ladies not excluded), nearly all of the guys here are anti-drama people.

I suggest we highjack this thread and have a full discussion about your signature photo. BTW, what do you do for a living? (If you don't mind me asking)
