That is high for many reasons......but a rare find as well. Common ground to be found. I look at them as well but parts are beyond rare, but a fun bike. Common sense is go to talk to him make an offer and wait him oot.......offer a fair price.....(the evil side.......he is in Chatsworth for the love of god....aboot a $200 bike in that circle)

Hate aftermarket paint jobs! Period, end of story, Did I say, "that I hate aftermarket paint jobs!" Not a purple fan and kinda dislike the Minnesotta Vikings too.

That bike needs some TLC and $ thrown at it to make it road worthy. I owned one for 6 months or so, mine was stock with the exception of a Two-Bros exhaust (loud and fatiguing) its still a three valve cruiser motor thrown into a sporting chassis yah know...my Kawasaki EX 500 will run circles around you...not bragging mind you, just talking from experience...2000 + is alot of scratch for a POS IMHO....

Thanks for the leads, both are definitely better looking all way around, but then I would have to consider shipping cost to CA or plane fare to Chicago, then gas money and time off to ride it back. Although the latter is an interesting option, it would a harder thing to do at the moment. However, Chatsworth is 45 minutes away from me, but the ugly paint job and "DOES NOT FULLY RUN" gives me greater pause than impulse to buy it. This would be a project bike for sure, but less to deal with in the beginning is preferred. Hell, I'd even rattle can over the "Vikings" paint scheme (or is that Michigan colors?) to get it more to my taste and then deal with the rough running issue.

It seems like $2K and above is the going price for these, more $ in CA due to its "sleeper" status, albeit a little under powered in stock form, and being a great canyon carver. I have seen these go as high as $3,500.00!, but that is way over priced IMO, even if its a pristine bike with low mileage. The last few I found here in CA were decently priced and in low to fair shape but the bank account was too low and was not the right time for me. As it is, I'll have a heck of a time explaining to the wife why I have another bike in the garage and still own money on the VFR! Ironically she is the more financially responsible one! She even hates shopping!

    Cheers

Hey I can understand that! If you really want it, work him down to a good price  Your wife is just like mine, lol...she is the saver and I like to buy stuff, hehe. Good thing is though, she really never says no to me buying something.

I agree Tink. A friend of mine had a 1990 Hawk setup as a track bike and I got to ride it, it was a blast. That's when I started thinking about getting one, but instead I bought my Ducati (with no regrets) and I love that bike to death, but I still have a gnawing that says get a Hawk! I'm sure I'll eventually get one, I just need to be patient.

The best version of this bike is a first generation Suz SV 650. Six speeds, much more power, three disc brakes, much bigger fuel tank, and about the same weight. All for about the same price.

    Just sayn.

It's funny, she teeters back and forth about learning to ride but I don't push her on the subject, but I figured if I just present her with it she might just hop on it and get it over with it. But...if she doesn't, I'll at least have a bike that I like and can keep as a play bike. That's where me having three bikes may be an issue for her!

First gen SV650 with carburetors is a better move. Modern bike that can run with dedicated race bikes (tz250s) Thats my cup-ah-two cents, and me be sticking to it.
