So a week and a half ago, I put in the Roadstercyle.com Mosfet RR kit and that went in without any issues. SO ....I decided to go one step further and put in a Shoraipower LiFe battery and I put that in yesterday before taking a nice 200 mile ride. That battery flat out rocks. It weighs 2 pounds and packs a ton of juice. No more battery tender. Resting voltage is well over 13 volts so the charging system works less as a result. You can read up on them at Shorai Lithium Motorcycle Batteries.

We actually use these batteries in the RC Airplane world so I am familiar with them.

The battery is physically smaller but they give you some nice quality foam to cut and put in the box and it worked out perfectly on my 2000 VFR. Awesome cranking power. Hopefully I will never have to worry about any of these silly charging issues, hehe

I just replaced my bike battery a year ago. I figure once this one goes, then I'll make the step up. Maybe the pricing will come down by then, too.

I'd like to put some in my boat, but with 3 of them at $850 to $1500 a piece, I'll pass.

Yeah, I figure this Batt should last 5-7 years easy without a ton of maintenance but 189 bucks is a tough pill to swallow. Only time will tell. I have a fishing boat with 3 batts and I will stick to AGM batts for those, lol. I have an onboard charger and just keep it plugged in 24/7.

Great guys, great product - about half the price. I use them in my bikes and they are awesome. Give them a look!

    You sure its 2lb?
    from the link you gave
ur LFX Standard recommendation is the best overall pick for most applications, and has been selected to give strong cranking performance and long lifespan. This LFX battery is 6.67 Lbs.

    May want to re-read that....

"Our LFX Standard recommendation is the best overall pick for most applications, and has been selected to give strong cranking performance and long lifespan. This LFX battery is 7.20 Lbs. lighter than the lead-acid YTZ12S. For technical questions, please see the Shorai FAQ."

    Specs:

    Voltage (V):12A/Hr PbEq:18Cranking CCA (A):270Weight (grams):960.00Weight (lbs.):2.12Max Charge (A):18

The LFX18A1-BS12 weighs 2.12 pounds

Okay, I'll throw a wrench in here...

I get 6-8 years out of a $40 Bikemaster battery, because I religiously use a battery tender. For the difference in price, that high-tech battery better last 20 years, and I doubt it would. Just for reference, I'm going out today to get a replacement for the Bikemaster battery in my Trophy, which was purchased in 2003. Okay, it's been on vacation the last year; but still...

Hehe...no doubt lead acid batts can last a long time if cared for. I got the LiFe batt because it is light, has no memory and does not need to be plugged into a battery tender at all. These batts provide all of their power up to about 20% capacity and their resting voltage is higher than a lead acid battery so the charging system does not have to work as hard. If I get 5-7 years I would be really happy :) It's cool technology

^^^^^ +1 -- I was doing the cheap lead acid battery thing for my last vfr battery and the thing crapped out only after 20 months and decided to take a acid dump all over my swing arm, frame parts, and plastic parts and then left them with a nice etch of shit I had to sand up and clean up.
Effe that! ---- Never again.... With this new battery, I dont have to baby sit it with a charger, it holds a higher resting voltage, cranks the bejesus outta the bike, is super lite, and I just bring it inside during the winter. And all indications, this thing should go 5 years minimum, probly more.

-- No more acid for me.

Wished I knew about this when I broke down in Vegas in May. I replaced my original battery, (6 years and almost 100,000 miles) Still didn't fix the problem so that battery was probably fine still. But I ride probably 95% of the year. No battery tended has touched my bike as there has not been a need. But had I known about this at the time of the break down, I would have forkked out the extra for this better battery for sure.

Expensive fancy things for my bike make certain parts of my anatomy to grow So does Rubo's signature.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen the lithium bike batteries on eBay. I recently got an 8 cell evo2 Li battery for $139. Weighs less than a kilogram, comes with a 3 year warranty and has great cold start amps. The seller is Starcycle USA. Definitely worth a look if you're changing batteries.

Here's what it comes like for your info. Also comes packaged in good foam you can cut down to make it snug in bikes battery box.

A couple hundred for a lithium iron battery is a steal.

FYI - be careful looking at cold cranking amps (CCA) for Lithium batteries. Most brands, such as Shorai and many others, state incorrect information about their batteries performance. No Lithium battery will generate those kinds of current outputs at cold temperatures. Dan at RB Batteries is the only person I know who is honest about this fact. It's a function of how the Lithium element works, there is nothing you can do about it. If you call Dan one of the questions he will ask you is if you ride in cold weather (under 45 degrees or so). If so you would need to bump to the next larger battery just to ensure there is enough capability there. What other companies show is not CCA but rather amp output at room temperature - be advised.
