Finally found the gremlin in my 84 Sabre 750. After rebuilding the carbs (twice, once professionally), new starter, new plugs, wires, coils, etc... My start issue was the pulsers. It would fire fine when cold, run a little funny until it warmed up for a long period of time (15-20 mins!). If I killed the engine and let it heat soak for 5-10 mins it wouldn't fire again, until it cooled off enough. The 1 + 3 cylinders weren't firing, and after systematically swapping every possible related component from 2-4 and 1-3 everything was working! But still no spark at 1-3. Anyway, I'm sure lots of you know all about this, but for those who don't here's a little tid bit. PULSERS. Check resistance between yellow white/yellow for 1-3, and blue to white/blue. Should be about 500 ohms. If resistance is infinite then its dead. COILS. check low tension (input) for 2.8 ohms, and high tension (output) for about 15-20 ohms. Not exact numbers, but check your manual. Oh, and V65 pulsers, fit in V45's. You just have to remove a couple brackets supporting the old V45 pulsers. Sooo nice to be back on two wheels again. Finally got to try out the new tires, and Corbin seat! Enjoy your riding.
 Glad you tracked down the problem and are back on the road, I hate intermittent crap like that.
