I'm off tomorrow for a 400 mile overnighter to see if my 63 yo body can take it. This is a prelude to my planned 600 mile overnighter to ride Lolo Pass. This route is E. Glacier > Waterton > stay in Pincher Creek AB then Fernie BC > Eureka MT > home. So if you see a red VFR with an old fart curled up by the road with calf, thigh and back spasms, it's me.

Actually the Heli-bars have helped a lot and luckily my peg lowering kit came in today's post and is now on the bike. With my XL Nelson Rigg tankbag and my raingear strapped to the top I can do a 1 nighter. Us old folks need more stuff than you kids: CPAP sleep apnea machine, Mac Air etc. Can't fit my cane on like I can on the SWing but that would probably totally blow the image. Bad enough now, folks see my big grey beard and half-bald head and start looking for my H-D touring pig I mean rig.

I'll post up some pix on this thread when I get back.

Hahaha have fun and be safe. I only consider old when I can not swing my leg over to ride my bike.

I can still (barely) swing the leg over but it has to be choreographed like a dance routine.

You'll be fine, my neighbor is 65(ish) and packs his 06 Vfr up once a year to ride from Fl up to the dragon. Then he stays in a tent....I don't think my 40 yr old back could keep up with that!!!
Have a safe trip & enjoy the ride.

Good luck, don't worry, you will have plenty of stops, my 60 yo bladder is only good for a couple of hours. I went to a bike cafe a couple of weeks ago (Ulysses club social) & a guy pulled in with his wife in the side car (Ural outfit) & they had a walking frame strapped to the luggage rack, I shit you not. There is hope for all of us old bastards.

Sounds like you have the right attitude, and that's what'll get you through. Make sure you take plenty of breaks, move around on the seat to keep loose, maybe pop an Advil or two at the start of the day, and take some pictures. We're like cavemen around here - "ugh. pikshoor make us happee".

I made 240 or so miles today in surprisingly good shape. The 1" difference in the pegs reallly helps. Beautiful ride though I had forgotten about the front range winds. A 30 degree tilt to the west to go straight, reminds me of many years ago when I lived in Boulder CO.

I think I will post up the pix and a travelogue in the "Rides" section tomorrow or Thur. Thanks for the good wishes.

Speaking of old fart, when my wife first saw the VFR she said "Is that a crotch rocket?" I had to explain that it is a gentleman's crotch rocket.
