i guessing that tires will be a personal preference thing. traction or long life seems to be the choices. and prices vary greatly. im looking for a good compromise tire, im not advanced enough of a rider to really push my bike. im more of a sporty cruiser. and i know that these bikes are a bit heavier than typical sport bikes so im looking for a tire that is more well suited to the bike than to my style, i dont have a style yet lol. at 4k miles, the dunlops that came on the bike are shot and im not a fan of dunlops to start with. im leaning toward some pereli angel ST's for my junk. everyone has there own opinions on tires so, lets hear y'alls

For my part, I LOVE the Dunlop Q2 I put on the front. When my Pirelli Diablo rear wears out, I'm getting a matching Q2 for the rear. Many reviewers say the Q2 is a track quality tire after having run multiple races on them.

In a nutshell. The Dunlop Sportmax Q2 is cheaper than a slick, but gives similar levels of traction, costs less than comparable quality/traction tires and should last 3500+ miles (seen some reports of 6000+ miles), depending on how you ride.

I have the Dunlop Q2's on my Ducati and they perform great for sport riding, but I have not had them on long enough to know how many miles they'll give me. However on my VFR I have Michelin PR2's, as most of the guys who have/are run(ning) them say they last a long time and perform well when for sport riding too. In the short time I've had them on I can vouch for their sport capabilities, we'll see the milage on these as well. Since I use the VFR primarily as my commuter, I'm looking forward to the high milage people have been reporting.

    Cheers

I just put some Pirelli Angel ST's on my 2000 VFR and after a few hundred miles I can honestly say I love them quite a bit!! Really made the bike handle and they seem to stick just fine

Ohhh a tire thread. Its actually been a while since we've had a good heated battle about tires. And oil, for that matter.

Not sure what kind of Dunlops you had. When I bought my bike, it had brand new Dunlop sportmax's on it. The difference between those and what I have now is night and day.

But anyway - I'm running the Michelin PR2s and like them a lot. I'd probably replace with the same. I have about 5500 miles on them, and should easily get another 2-3K - maybe more.

Not that it means much, but I don't have "chicken strips", so they stick good enough, I guess. I haven't used them all that much in the rain, but again, they seem to stick well and no issues of hydroplaning at highway speeds.

If you don't have style, I'd suggest looking into something that is a dual compound. It doesn't sound like you need a tire that'll stick like glue but only give you 2000 miles, yet you don't want some highway tire that's gonna last 15,000 miles but never gets up to temp.

Yeah, but what kind of oil do you use?

Pliskin has some good advice in his reply. Seems like a lot of people do the PR2's so i wouldn't hesittate to give them a try.
