What VFR do you own? (It would help if you update your forum profile to include the Year/model that way it will appear automatically in every post you make and we may be able to offer relevant input).

For instance if its a recent model with ABS or combined linked brakes then it definitely sounds like you have not followed the complicated bleeding regime correctly and failed to bleed all the air out of all the pistons. For instance the front brake lever also works some of the rear pistons and vice versa (read complicated/PITA). I doubt there is much anyone can do over the internet apart from suggesting you download the relevant Honda service manual for your VFR and then closely follow the brake bleeding instructions.

Where are you based in the UK? If you are in London then I would recommend speaking to Matt at Oval Motorcycle Centre. The guy knows his stuff. If you want to try to sort the problem yourself - just book workshop bay which comes with access to all the tools you would ever need, and if you hit a wall Matt is always willing to help.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Not sure of your year but the early bikes had a metal retainer that was easy .....more than easy to get the pads on the wrong side of if not paying a close eye. Would cause the pads to push on the pistons and give a weak or almost nothing grab on the brake for the first pull.
