Went for a early morning ride up my favourite nearby Mountains pass with a buddy riding his K1300S last Sunday. After a satisifing run up arrived at the Famous Robinson pie shop at the top and had just finished ordering a Meat pie with tomato source and muggachino when an older biker walked into the shop and asked:

" Who owns the VFR parked outside ? " I replied " That would be mine "

He asked " It looks in excellent nick, what year ? " I stated " it is in excellent condition for a '99 "

He then asked " Do you want to sell it to me ? " to which automatically retorted " Never "

He then quickly left the pie shop riding off with his buddies leaving me more than a little bewilded by the odd exchange that had just occurred, with my mate suggesting afterwards I should have found out how much he was prepared to offer.

In hind site you are of course right but as I'd just had a great run up the mountain was more than a little attached to it at the time answering " Never " automatically.

Often older guys walk past a line of bikes to talk about their old days when they owned or desired VFR's of the '80s but this was the first that wanted to buy it on the spot.

If he had been serious, he would have made you an offer you couldn't refuse.

Robbo Pie Shop at the top of the Macquarie Pass, eh? - They make unbelievably good apple turnovers.

At a guess, I would say that the guy you were talking to was seriously looking for a pristine Gen 5. - Clean, low km models are hard to find.

I would have asked him what is offer would have been, but I know I paid too much for mine + all the extras I put on = never going to sell it at a profit.

Thats ok, I dont plan on selling it anyway :)
