Maybe i'm anal (and lots of guys here do think i'm a bit of an asshole), but i cannot stand the idea of DRY bearings on startup, so i ALWAYS pre-fill the oil filter by hand before mounting it, every time on all my bikes !!! Not as messy as you might imagine.

Without that step, your bike can idle for 20-30 seconds with NO OIL getting to critical main, rod, and cam bearings !! Add that time up for every oil and filter change over all the years, and consider how long your engine has suffered without lubrication.................

As a matter of fact, i always crank my bikes on startup with the RUN switch off until the oil light blinks out, and only then push RUN, every time.

No one who ever built a race engine would try to start it without getting FULL oil pressure first.

Well I have never built a race engine but that's good info squirrel. The only thing is that the position of the oil filter on an 06 is not located in the greatest place.
