Hello, I has tryed to have the first valve adjustment fter 90000 km. There where 2 valves that needed adjustment. One exhaust vlve was
0,4 and should be 0,3. After new shims ws mounted, I measured OK clearansees,å so all seem good!
The start went well and ll seemped good until I trhottled the engine. From
2000 rpm there startet a noisy loud, that i cant understand. The loud sounds like wrong valve clearanse, which incrases dramaticly with the rpm. I did not trhottle more than 4000 rpm.
I used the Haynes manual Regarding that you should not rotate the engine unter-ckockwise.I did try that, could it harm the engine?
I hope someone has an explanation for my VFR problem!

It would seem that something was done during the valve adjustment that is causing a noise to appear that was not present before the adjustment.

Re-check the valve clearances but do not rotate the engine counter-clockwise.

i talked to a vf1000r buddy of mine today and he thinks that counter-clockwise could cause engine damage due to the slack/ backlash of the cam chain allowing a piston to hit a valve. i have no way to verify this information, it is only offered as an aspect to consider when troubleshooting...

The cams in the 1999 VFR are gear driven, there is no cam chain.

Best to check everything you touched. I have these butt puckering moments from time to time and it is most often the smallest thing you overlooked. My last was a fucking disaster and a simple mistake.......oh so simple. It will happen if you wrench.....mistakes are made by the best of us.
