Hi, I'm glad to finally be a part of the VFR World forum! I'm in southern CA (Ventura County), and have two VF1000Rs; an '85 that I ride now & then, and an '86 which sits in my living room with 291 original miles on it. I know a few other VF1000R owners who are on this forum, and only one who lives within striking distance for meetup purposes. I'm hoping that I might find a small group of VFR owners who are not too far away, for maybe a vintage ride, or just a meetup at a place to eat on a Saturday evening, etc.

You tell us about your '86 with 291 miles and don't put up a picture? Boooo!

    Thanks for the welcomes :)

On the '86 pic, I put one in the gallery, but knowing my PC skills, maybe it's not really there... I'll check it out. Meantime here it is on Photobucket: [IMG]

A note about this bike: It was bought new in '86 and almost immediately crashed (fairing damage, etc) by the original owner, and sat as-was for years. In the past 4 or 5 years, it was owned by two other VF1000R collectors, and I bought it about 2 years ago. It had a set of flawless '85 bodywork, and the original dented '86 tank. Since then, I have obtained a NOS 49-state '86 tank, and NOS '86 back seat cowl, and NOS original pipes, as seen here. Annoyingly, the bike is a CA model, so the gas cap won't close. I have a perfect 49-state cap, so I might try to get the locks swapped. No rush, as I kind of like having the cap open part way to prevent moisture buildup. Still looking for NOS or perfect '86 upper, lower and rear bodywork, as budget and luck allows. It has the correct headlight and bezel, which are carefully installed in the '85 upper fairing without modification to the '85 bodywork, and using a piece cut from a smashed '86 fairing. Original tires in horrible rotten shape, but they hold air for display purposes. It still has the original blue CA plate, with the tag expired June '87! I've never personally ridden it, but one of the previous collectors has, and stated that it's true & tight.

Sharp looking bike. Thanks for the pic and good luck with her.

I understand your position, but I don't think I could have a bike parked and used as a conversation piece. I'd rather ride her, and then have conversations about how she rides.

Thanks! It's tempting, but since I do have the '85 also (in my avatar pic), I can refrain. My '85 is in nice shape over all, but has higher miles and been modified for correcting some design issues (top end oiling, etc). I think keeping the '86 at so few miles, makes sense from a collector standpoint. If I were to put it on the road, I'd have to completely ruin the originality, starting with tires and brake hoses, etc etc. Based on experience with vintage Japanese cars, virtually everything on that bike made of rubber, would fall apart in the first few miles.
