Well in my case I only have about 3000 miles on my Michelin road 2's and I've got a tiny nail in the rear. I've plugged a ton of car tires and never had an issue. I hate to toss this bun in the trash already as it shows practically no wear so far apart from the nail. The nail is right in the middle of the tread. My bike is an 07 RWB that is primarily used for commuting. Rarely spirited riding, never track days. I'd just rather not drop $175 on a new one if I can patch it and be ok

Plugs are an evil that we have to deal with from time to time, Surfer will back me up on this. Alot like a charging fix.......you can run it after you get home.....failure after that is your being cheap and short sighted. The correct fix that lets you sleep at night may cost more.

It just sucks so much to have to shitcan such a new tire. I mean I know $175 isn't a ton of dough for assurance of safety it just seems so wasteful...I mean removing the tire and patching it would be better than a plug but I just have a hard time thinking one of those arrow/mushroom shaped plugs wouldn't work...grrr. Dammit

Plug kits are nice things to have handy. Never seen any manufacturer of same to say plugs were permanent fixes. I do like mello dude's use on some rears though. ;)

Gotta say that most of them suck when it comes to supplying enough C02 carts to fill a flat.

Wonder what the take is on plugging (not a sidewall hole) then pulling the tire and patching over the plug? Done that with good results. Not the best but IMO better..

Lot of difference in holes too.. a finishing nail vs a drywall screw for instance. Or a spikestrip for the dearly departed..

For a brief time I seemed to be a magnet for nails and sheet metal screws (3 on one 1200 mile trip in 3 days :tsk: ) I have no problem using a patch on a tire in the thick part of the tread; yours is a good candidate for a patch Honda Tech. I wouldn't run that tire down as low on tread as an unpatched tire but I see no reason it can't be used for commuting and everyday use. Granted if you ride like TOE or Reg or Tori or any of the fast guys (not marrib) then I wouldn't leave it on the bike too long...

Yep, it is a guess until you pull that sucker out of the tire. One thing we can be sure of is that maybe the old ten penny nail is a lot more than that in todays money.
