31, proud owner of an '09. Previous bike was an '07 Shadow. I was dragging the frame around corners leaving a spark trail and so my friend said, "Maybe you should get a sportier bike." Had a record breaking year of income as a waiter at Elliott's Oyster House in Seattle (2008) and literally got up one day and said, "I'm gonna go buy a VFR". I still remember riding that thing out of the lot and getting on the highway and being blown away by the useable power. Then the VTEC kicked in...

Great bike. Would buy it again in a heartbeat, but I must say I really wanna ride a 5th gen and see what they're like.

I'm 31, just purchased a 2008 Silver VFR a couple of days ago. I started a decade ago with an 2002 Suzi SV650S, put nearly 20,000 miles across SoCal, crashed and traded for a 2006 GSX-R 1000 - it seemed like a good idea at the time. Eventually realized doubling the speed limit in first gear and being exhausted after only 50 miles is boring, and missed the multi-functionality of the SV. Bought a 2005 GSX-R 750 trackbike which filled the niche for nearby racetracks, and finally got the one sportbike that rules them all. Been there, done that...the hard way...normal people want to carry stuff, spend time on highways, see the world on two wheels, and have wrists/spines/necks/legs that aren't made of adamantium.

The SV was ballpark, great versatility but a bit weak. The GSX-R was the other extreme, a nuclear device employed as a flyswatter; great for showing off and getting into trouble, useless for most other roles. GSX-Rs, CBRs, ZX-Rs, etc...at home on the racetrack. The VFR is a refined, gentleman's sportbike...already impressed 2 days in, time will tell even more.

Turned 22 a few months ago but bought my 5th gen last september. Didnt know what I wanted until i went to the dealership. Didnt have my license yet so i couldnt test ride anything. we were looking at a 03 Beemer k1200 s which was beautiful and kind of mad they werent willing to work on pricing on it. then saw an 01 bandit 1200 for cheap. really wanted that one too. then they showed us a versys which i didnt like at all! went to the bathroom and came out and the guy was talking to my dad about this astonishly beautiful yellow bike in absolutely mint condition. I sat on it and it was so much more comfortable than the BMW although slightly more aggressive stanced. Started it up and fell in love with it. I dont think I could every get rid of this bike so i dont think i will!

Nice story! New fangled Beemers arent what their cracked up to be anyway.
Bandit has a sweet anvil-like engine and I am a fan. I would own one if a clean low mileage unit fell in my lap for a gud price.
Versys is a good bike but extremely Fug-lee...they have an ER as well as a ninja 650 which are less goofy looking.
Congrads on your new purchase, hope you have many, many, many years of safe, trouble free miles ahead of you. They are great bikes, we love em here at this web site :duh:

Keep the shiny side up ok,,,rubber side down...Cheers

Yeah, I've ridden all those bikes and agree with the follow up poster: you made the right choice. I actually test-rode a brand new k1200s for a good 45 minutes, and despite its appearance, I found it to be lackluster. It's a pig with a long wheel base made to look sporty and have a lot of easy to use power, but you can't feel the road on it worth a shit (and yes I had the suspension setting on 'sport'). The only thing I liked about it was the heated handlebars...

I'm 28. It seems most of the young crowd here is late 20s. Makes sense, although it rides easy this isn't a beginners bike. Plus I'd hate to see what the insurance for a teenager would be.

10-15 years ago before most insurers got on the motorcycle insurance bandwagon, VFR's were in the sportbike class and the bean counters and number crunchers at the various companies charged accordingly. The other real numbers are unfortunately stacked against young dudes.

Maybe someday the insurers will get hip to charging extra for assholes who continue to use cellphones and handhelds whilst ( sort of) operating a cage and the ocassional dumbfuck who texts at the ton on a bike.

I'm 22 and had it for about 2 months. It was a step up from my klx250s. I liked the width of this bike compared to the other 400 - 800cc bikes i tried. It felt like a full bike. Looked good, seemed comfy and i heard it didn't wheelie on takeoff which was good for my confidence.

Awww man. I got a kid that's older than you.

    This thread is bullshit! :)

By the way, nice stable in the works, steelgunna. Good luck in your search. I know there's an NC30 for sale in the classifieds if that peaks your interest.

26 and I bought my Viffer brand new a month ago. Was getting sick of the super sports bike scene. Love how nice the Viffers are to ride compared to my old Gixxer!

I'm 25 and I ride a 2002 VFR800. Awesome bike. Whoever was asking why "young" guys buy 80's bikes, it is definitely, DEFINITELY because of the price. A few years ago when I bought my first bike, I desperately wanted a 2007 R1--I ended up with a 1982 Suzuki GS550L (with 49 massive horses spinning the crank). To sum up the discussion, I'd have to say that the young guys buy the old viffers because they're cheap, and they update their stables with 5th through 7th gens because they fell in love with those ole gals.

I'm a month shy of 25 and have been riding VFRs for over a year. Moved up last September from a Ninja 250 I bought in April, wanted something that was fast, but still comfortable on a long trip. As it happened, a good friend of mine had a 3rd-gen VFR, and I absolutely fell in love with them. Had my current 5th-gen since November and still can't get enough of it!

26 going on 27 and proud owner a 2006 VFR. Not as fast as my old 06 CBR600RR but close to it and way more comfortable. I also love the sound of the V4
