Question.. Is the figure you quoted a yearly fee? Here generally on a state by state basis with a few counties carving their bit of the pie, there is the registration fee and then a yearly or in the case of Oregon a fee paid for two years.

Some states, and again on a state to state basis, drop the toll charges when the project is paid for. Emphasis on "some" and taking into consideration the maintenance costs. One prime example is the Golden Gate Bridge.

So FJ12 is getting away the cheapest at $12.25 annual, with Deadsmiley not too far behind. Either that or your both banging the local broad at the DMV.

The Aussies are getting rammed hard, and best we can tell, it does not come with Vaseline. But they are happy.

The Oregonians are coming in pretty cheap, but laughing at the prices their next door neighbors from California pay. And the Californians appear to be mad at everyone.

    I feel better now.

Yeah, but it costs me $100/year to license my Dodge dually to pull the toyhauler with, which also costs $100/year. So I don't get off too cheaply. :frown:

here in Illinois - you know, the land where the ex-governors make your plates now - Motorcycles are $48/yr, cars $75/yr, plus if you have personalized plates, or some other ones, like Fire Fighter, Nature, etc. They are another $10 or so per year, even on bikes.

You're still laughing FJ12 - I have 2 4x4s and two bikes registered here @ the better part of $700/year EACH...!!! and $40/year each for my tandem trailer and camper trailer - may as well just round that up to $3k/year in registrations...

Might as well throw in the $2300 for insurance too...

Now insurance is a whole 'nother animal, but safe to say I pay multiples of that for just my 3 cars. :)

I know in Iowa it is a percentage of the vehicle worth, down to a certain amount. One upper crust hotel had a stretched Rolls Limo a number of years ago, and back them (this was the 80's) where it was over $1000/year. But I think pickup trucks are like 40 - 50/year over there. At least it used to be. Not sure an more.

Man, you guys make me feel better for sure. My insurance for 2 trucks: '01 Dodge dually, '04 Ford Sport Trac, and '01 Ford Escort ZX2 runs about $1200/year. Full coverage on the trucks but only liability on the Escort. Full coverage on the both bikes runs around $300/year.

But don't forget: for my penance I'm living in Missouri.

    Wow, That's allot of money

Here's a link to our state run insurance.
Insurance Rate Calculator - Vehicle Type Selection

Run through the rate calculator and let me know how it compares to your area. Use Postal code R3T-0N5 as 90% of the population falls into this category. Also note that they list the max discount rate at 35% but nobody qualifies for this yet. Currently the max discount is 25%

Also note that they have a monopoly and you can only register through them. They are also the DMV and are also in charge of driver licencing.

Let me know how you make out. I'm interested to see how this compares to different areas
