How long do you guys let your VFRs warm up for? I read in the Owners Manual to wait until the needle is above the cold mark to ride the bike. Is this what you guys follow? Mine is a 3rd gen FWIW.

Mine warms up as long as it takes me to back out of the garage. Usually 15-30 seconds, anymore than that and you're just wasting fuel. JMO of course. I ride easily for the first couple miles at least though.

If your 3rd gen is anything like my 4th it will take 1/2 an hour to get above cold. I normally start on the choke (winter) then turn the choke of as soon as possible. Hold it at 2k rpm for a minute or 2, then keep the revs below 4k for the first couple of minutes of my ride.

I give my 6th gen a couple minutes to warm the oil and all that before I start ripping on the throttle...

I listen to the engine and wait for it to even out before I touch the throttle. Then, I back out of the garage. Ride easy the first couple of miles. I don't get into traffic for a few minutes, so there's no need for much throttle. I wouldn't get wild until it was at normal operating temperature.

I start the engine, and as soon as it's running smoothly (15 - 30 seconds), I ride out of the driveway, and down the street. By the time I leave my neighborhood w/o any hard throttle use, the engine is well on it's way to warm (in the winter) or completely warm (spring, summer & fall). That's about a quarter of a mile. I never let sit and idle on start up for more than a couple of seconds w/o being in motion. I have noticed that the bike is easier to drive when fully warmed up - >160F, and seems to run the best when it's in the 190-210 range (smoother and crisper throttle response, etc.)

As soon as the ECU starts bringing the idle down from 2200 rpm I go ride. This seems to happen around 80 degrees or so, as the ECU never fully chokes it if it's warmer than 75 or so outside. I was always taught that any throttle movement at all when the bike is on full choke will foul plugs (due to how rich the bike runs during warm-up cycle).

6th gen.... I let it run while I put on all my gear. Probably three minutes. This is longer than necessary, but it's my routine. If I have to go back inside, I shut it off.

The bike (mine, anyway) does run funny until it achieves some minimum level of warm-up, however. Once I tried to take off immediately and I almost fell over when it shut off on me.

I start as soon as I get a reading on the display. Then by the time im out of my sissy 30mph roads by my house, it's time to go!!!!

Makes me cringe to see people spending 10 minutes getting their gear on, only to sit on the bike, thumb on the starter kicking away with their feet to get the bike moving before the poor things had a chance to even start. Would love to see something go bang and jam up on them...not that I'd wish anyones bikes to break on them of course...
