Just picked up an '86 VFR500, that came with a spare frame and spare engine, along with a few boxes of parts. Pretty decent shape, but has a bit of electrical problem. Installed new battery today, and tomorrow hope to sort out the electrical issues with the lights. After that it should be a runner.
Current bikes include a 1997 CBR1100XX Blackbird, 1988 Kawasaki Ninja 750 and now the VFR500F. Looking forward to getting this one on the road and enjoying the ride. I am sure I will have lots of issues to discuss and seek help with, from the experts on this forum.
I am 62 and don't own a cruiser. Tried a Gold Wing once, didn't like it - just too heavy and hard to handle. Everything else I have owned over the past 47 years of riding has been some kind of sport bike, and don't expect that to change anytime soon. Wife says the VFR is another of my sport bike toys, and I should grow up and get myself a cruiser. Just can't do it. Love race style bikes and spend a lot of time at the vintage bike races and shows.
I am sure I will really enjoy working on and riding the VFR.

Don't be listening to talk like that. People always want us to "grow up". It's like they want to hurry us up into a pine box or something!

Screw that. buy and ride what makes you happy.....maybe I should just say, "ride what makes you happy" as this opens up a whole new area of opportunity. hehehehh

Congrats on the new project! What part of the province to you hail from?

Not that it matters but you have a VF500 not a VFR500 since the VFR series didn't start until 1986 with the 700cc model. You probably knew that already but like most Canucks I know your mind probably gets a little cloudy when you have a 6-pack of Labatt's Blue for breakfast LOL! Welcome aboard and enjoy your new V4 toy.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I am from Barrie. I will take some photos as soon as I sort out the electrical issues. Just got a battery today. On the charger so hopefully will be ready to turn over tomorrow. Worked on a few other issues today. Rewired the tail light which someone had messed up pretty bad, found a couple of other minor connecter issues, but should be good to go tomorrow. Will post pics if it ever stops raining around here and I can get it outside to photo.

Well I messed with the wires yesterday and today, got the tail lights, signals and headlight working as they should. Horn still not working. Charged up the battery (measures 12.6V) and tried to start engine......... NOTHING........ Changed out one of the CDI's that I had as a spare, don't have a spare for the larger of the two. Will take apart the starter switch tomorrow to check and clean it, but does anyone have any ideas.
Bike ran a couple months ago, and PO changed the tail light/rear signals and now it won't start. Can't imagine that would cause a no start, and I have since rewired it so it works properly.
Checked fuses, and as many connections as I could get to. I hate these electrical problems. Give me an engine to rebuild anytime, but I am not good with wires and such.
Any help or ideas as to what to look for would be appreciated.
    Thanks
