I've never had a tire problem, but on a recent tour two other people did. That made me realize I really should carry a repair kit on the bike. I saw a couple of different styles at my local shop, and was wondering which type people recommend, and why?
    Thanks,
    Rick

I had a flat on a trip at the most inoportune time - On Glacier Point at Yosemite. (Can it get anymore inconvenient?) After that - screw it, I jumped out and bought a tire plugger kit and am looking for a reasonably priced electric pump. Cycle pump looks impressive but its kinda pricey.

    - I practised on a junk tire with the tire plugger tool and it works pretty easy.
I'm going to make it standard packing for a trip. (It beats sitting for hours waiting for a tow truck.)

Get a automotive tire plug kit & a small can of tire inflater for the temp job to get you home.
keep your speeds under 75 (for safety reasons).
Get home & have the plug removed & a Tire patch put on the inside of the tire, but if you run canyons hard or do a track day, I'd replace the tire all together also for safety reasons (patch may hold, but is your bike & life worth the chance ?).

I do some 4wheeling so Iv'e always got a tire plug kit, but for your bike you could get one of the dirtbike inflator kits. It uses a co2 cartridge, and is nice & compact.

I use a simple string plugger for $3.95 and a 12 volt pump -- Campbell Hausfeld -- at Walmart for $9.95 ..... They take up very little room on the bike (pump is 2" by 5" by 5" and then there's the hose). I'll have to admit through, my only a flat with a tubeless tire has been in my driveway and I used one of those mushroom plugger guns for that ... and it works really well .... but takes up more room that the string plugger. The pump is great, I use it to maintain tire pressure on all my vehicles. On a motorcycle, I figure to run a plug only as far as a shop to buy a new tire. I worry about harming the steel wraps when one reams out the hole to put the mushroom plug in .. and I'm not too sure about the string plug at 100mph+ .... There are no shops around my neck of the woods that will plug/patch a tire. :spider:

...my tire guy has advised me to NEVER use tire snot, as its harder than shit to get off the rim...his advice is to plug, pump, and ride for replacement...consequently, on tours i carry plug/pump kit, emergency credit card, and cash...
