I made it out alive. No missing body parts. Lots of road rash and cuts, and a body that feels like it got hit by a truck.

Holy crap! :hss:. Glad to hear you seem to be ok.
Man, oh man, still, that stinks. Damn unobservant cager! :mad2: Couldn't see the black and blue guy on the bright red bike with the bright headlights.:der:

Good thing you went to the Hospital & had things checked out. Some injuries from a wreck are hidden by the adrenalin.
Helmet hit? If so, it's done its job - time for a new one - possibly the same for the other riding gear.

Don't know how the insurance "thing" works in Canada, but some of the other recent "incident" posts did have some guidance on holding the insurance company's feet to the fire to replace the bike in a reasonable fashion - without low-ball, take it or leave it offers. They should also replace all your gear.

Towing and storage fees can end up being a powerful incentive to the insurance company, since they and/or the other vehicle owner are the ones who are usually required to pay them.

Glad to hear you're ok! :amen:
Best of luck with the fixing or replacing of your viffer :pout:.

I hate when this $#!+ happens! I hope that they at least stopped and made sure you were OK and that they are insured. All I can say is, HEAD ON A SWIVEL! that's how you have to ride, especially with the younger drivers texting and not paying attention to the road.

From the photo you look in decent shape, but kudos for going to the hospital regardless of how you felt. When I got rear ended in my car I went in to get checked out and they found a some internal bruising in my abdomen from the seat belt. The girl who hit me, hit me really hard! So hard that she got a broken nose from her air bag.

Thanks for the kind words. I am living in Seattle currently. The driver was double insured (by company and himself). Everything will be 100% covered. As for the bike, the police officer said the same thing. Hold the insurance companies feet to the fire, and don't settle on a cheap buy-out.

I will be certainly shopping for a newer 5th gen soon. As much as this accident was horrifying for me, it won't keep me off the road, and yes....in new riding gear. Helmet, jacket and gloves.

Its still a sad day though. I almost lost my life, and then lost something that I loved.

I will probably go down and see the bike and take some pics of the damage, if anybody is interested.

Wow. Good thing this happened in Seattle and not Whistler
hate to think of what nightmares you would go through with ICBC. I am sure they would find some way to find you partially at fault. Good to hear you are relatively OK.

glad you are ok.Now you got the Morphy's law out of your probabilities.Every rider will fall. Its just when.I had 3 falls already and because of them I ride more defensibly.
Bike looks very survivable based on the photo.I would take the money for the bike and lavish new mods like suspension etc.

glad you're OK and not giving up riding. On the plus side, you get to buy a new ride, although, it's always tough to say goodbye to your old one. Sounds like there won't be any major problems recouping the bike's value from the driver. Atleast he wasn't staring right at you and pulled out anyway.... not that that ever happens.

Damn man! Good thing you're ok. I had a fairly close call this am, too... I was turning left, he was turning right and he had a yield sign - did not even see me! Glad I was paying attention.. we pulled into the gas station and I approached him - told him to pay attention as he failed to yield to me.. his words "I didn't even see you" - well, that was blatantly obvious! Can't take your eyes off the road for a second!!

And - rock the gear! Wear it, it'll save your hide!
