I'm looking for a how-to to replace the starter switch on my '99. It began having trouble with the headlights. I disassembled and cleaned the contacts. That helped for about 6 months. Now it's apparent that the switch is bad (broken internally). I have a factory service manual, but I didn't find how to remove and replace the entire switch and cable assembly (admittedly, I didn't look very hard). I've also used the search function here, and didn't come up with anything.

Any advice on how-to and where I should locate parts is most appreciated. I can't (won't) ride the bike without a headlight and it's killing to see the bike just sitting there due to a such a minor problem.

    Thanks!

I just replaced mine a week ago, it was a PITA! The part that fucken frustrated me was the gray plastic bezel removal, how the fuck does it come off without having to distort the hell out of it? I took off the clip ons bars to get that bitch off, then removed a couple of 10mm nuts so i can move the cluster forward enough to get to that damn pesky red connectors behind the cluster. The new switch was cheap though about $48 but damn the job looked easier then i thought.

Thanks. Ya, I've wanted to have the dealer fix it but the nearest one is an hour away. Last time I checked on the part it was $90. Did you buy the part online or in a store?
