Might look at kycyclesalvage.com. Seems like the white color scheme was 2nd half of 86 and 1st half of 87. Would need to be sure the ignition system is the same. might PM squirrelman on that question.

The fuse in the relay is gonna be a non traditional fuse, it is just a strip of metal that bridges the posts.

checked all the fuses...in the starter relay i have a 30 amp fuse, which is fine...don't know about a metal strip? still think it must be a wire somewhere in the harness, still no luck

The power to the ignition switch is a red wire that runs directly from the starter relay to the ignition switch. Have you checked the connection from the harness to the ignition switch? This should be really easy to locate the open in the circuit.

YES. Pinch and shivvy it off. The 2 returns from the RR are a common point of failure on this bike. If they melt the connector, there be a ground in there that could very well be your short. Pick up a book if you dont have one. I think there is a PDF around here somewhere if you search.

Persistance pays off, and it's usually better to track down a problem than just throw new parts into the equasion, huh ??

Can you post a photo of what you discovered under the red plug ??

got it all back together so don't have a photo...but it was a burned connection going to the r/r typical stuff for our vfr's... it was jut a problem getting the top off the starter relay...they kind of melt together. thanks
