I'm getting ready to put my engine back into the frame after replacing a damaged exhaust valve. Obviously there's a lot to do but one thing that isn't clear in the Clymer manual is the oil change. The manual says to run the engine for a minute or two and then check the oil. Is the VF500 a dry sump? I ask that because that's how you check the oil on a dry sump engine but the manual never mentions it as a dry sump system. Obviously theres no oil in my engine so I'm starting from empty and will add the correct number of quarts to begin with.

Not a dry sump system. They ask you to wait to allow oil to drain back down into the bottom of the engine. You'll see. Put in the recommended, fire it up, let run for a few minutes(idle is fine), shut it down, wait, and top it off.
