Howdy everyone! I just bought me an 87 VFR700F2 a couple weeks ago, garage kept all original turn-key w/ 18k on the ticker. Needs some little tlc but not much, and I'm a DIY guy so I'll likely be harassing you all with some questions here and there. I learned to ride on an 06 Yamaha r6 about 5 years ago, but after a year of riding, an idiot ex-friend rear ended me on the highway and put me into a set of concrete barricades at about 70mph. I luckily somehow walked away from that one, but it took me a few years to get back on a bike. I've only ridden a few hundred miles on the VFR in the past couple weeks, but I absolutely love how it rides and handles and man am I glad I sold my car to buy it. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the entire VFR experience and after my wreck a few years ago, I finally feel like I'm alive again...

First, What Toe said. Secondly, welcome to The World! As far as the ex-friend goes, assuming he became an "ex" after the incident? If you are planning on doing your own wrenching, there are plenty of guys here I'm sure will be able to provide advice and hands on assistance in some cases.

    Cheers

Yea it's a simple scheme but not too over the top, I still need to do the front wheel black and some red pinstriping to accent the red piping on the Corbin seat, but in due time....which means when I find more dollars. The best part of the black paint is that it's all Plastidip so it protects paint and factory decals but will peel off in one sheet with no damage or residue in a matter of seconds

I REALLY like what you did on the sides and fairing. That is a very nice upgrade to the styling. I might suggest only blacking out the back half of the fender.

What was your process to plasti-dip? I might like to try that out on my 2000. If it can be undone easily, it will let me experiment with some ideas I have had bouncing around in my head.

Jury is still out for me on the wheels. I might dare say I like the white wheels better.

Welcome to the forums and kudos on your choices so far.

    Jose

I used the flat black Plastidip rattle cans, they are 5 or 6 bucks a can and it's basically a spray-on rubberized coating. It feels like super thin electrical tape when you peel it off. Google search Plastidip and their website should pop right up. Also, type in Plastidip on YouTube and you'll find a video of a guy spraying a brand new 60g Audi head to toe and peels it off in one sheet. I still carefully masked off everything just to be cautious, traced my outlines lightly with a razor and all the overspray and surrounding areas peel right off. I've spraypainted most of the twenty-something vehicles I've owned but I'll never go back to using regular rattle cans ever again

Nice looking paint scheme. The only change I would recommend is to stay with the white wheels.
Black wheels seem to disappear and not do much aesthetically to the bike.
My '98 wheels are stock black and I wish they were white like my former '86 VFR and '90 RC30.

I was on the fence about painting the wheels for a bit, what convinced me to try it was that the previous owner seemingly never cleaned the wheels at all and after several attempts to restore the bright white, I just couldnt get rid of the dingy off-white stained color... Oh well, maybe that will be my justification to find a 2nd bike so I have the best of both worlds
