Hey everyone I need some help again. I had my mechanic recently replace my spark plugs and everything was going great until he got the the front right spark plug. When he pulled the plug out there seemed to either be a spacer or metal ring that was halfway down the threading of the spark plug. He could not get the metal ring off of the plug and said he put the plug back into the bike because he didnt know if it was a spacer or just a part of the plug. Does anyone know if there is something specific that needs to be put onto the threading of the spark plugs when replacing them? Here is a picture of the type of metal ring/ spacer I am talking about. This is not the exact plug, since I do not have pics of the old vs new plug with me. Btw both the old and new plugs are ngk laser iradiums for your information.

If anyone could help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks

Here is a pic of the metal ring that I am talking about. My new plugs to my knowledge did not have this on them when they were installed.

Is this metal ring integral/ really important to the functionality of the spark plug?

can't ell from your pic, unless you bought all that stuff on the ebay page. I'm wonderin' if it has an indexing washer on it though.......Edit, that's the sealing washer or crush ring if you are so disposed

Here is a better pic of the plug. I bought the plugs through parts unlimited from a local bike shop.

So in my case this sealing washer/ crush ring became cross threaded on the threading on the current spark plug and cannot be removed. But as I had said before my new plugs do not have this washer as far as I know. Will it affect anything without these washers on the new plugs?

That crush washer is normally on every spark plug that is used with a flat seating surface.
The washer is captive to the plug in that it is pressed on such that it can not be removed under normal operation.

Some engines may have a tapered seat and the plugs will also be tapered to match and have no washer. They are not interchangeable.
