Weekend run from CO back to my old house in WI. Have to check the old renter out of the property and getting it relisted for sale. Leaving Friday afternoon. Returning Monday.

House for sale (I really miss my shed)

    Good luck with the eviction!

Was that entire property yours - the barns and silo too? That's awesome.

    Ride safe and have fun.

Sounds like fun...except for the crossing Nebraska, Iowa part. Your bike looks very nice, but those "STOCK" 6th gen cans just look out of place on it I am eager to see you with some aftermarket Leo Vince, or Micron. I understand that the stock 6th gen were probably free minus the cost of shipping, but they just do not complete the bike with all of the work that you have put into it. The girl deserves a nice backend when you get the $$$$.

Have a great trip and ride safe.

P.S. Don't forgot to stop and see the worlds largest ball of twine and the world's largest I-80 truck stop in IA! So exciting!

    agreed.

Well I pretty much do a left, right, left tour of the state highways as opposed to the interstate. Unless I need to make up some time or outrun bad weather.

Unfortunately, I probably will have to hit the slab pretty hard on Monday as I will be doing the majority of the ride all in one day.

I should be running SPOT so my progress will be available here: SPOT Shared Page
(updates only keep for 5 or 7 days so a month from now it won't show any trip data - unless I'm on a different trip....)

That is exactly why I picked it up. I would get a free couple hours and want to take off for a ride on my own. Especially dual sport rides. I spent a couple extra bucks for the tracking feature so SPOT sends up a location signal every 20 minutes or so all on it's own. No need for me to stop and send an OK signal and I figured if I do crack myself silly, it might be hard to hit the Yuppie-911 button.

I have the option to send an "OK" signal (maybe I'm running late with a flat tire and no phone signal but situation is under control), one button is pre-configurable to a custom message which I have set to say, "on my way home", a non-emergency help button I have configured to say, "broke down, bring the truck and ramps".

Then of course there's the "send the helicopters" button which pings right to emergency dispatch. All the other signals send my wife an email status update or she can log in to the website to view my last known location.

Generally there's no need for me to stop and send her any update as long as the breadcrumb updates are running.

I want to say I bought the unit on one of their periodic specials they run and probably paid around $125-140 or so.

Annual subscription service costs me around another $140 I think. Neighborhood of $12/mo with the breadcrumb feature.

    just don't be this guy:
Tired from a hike? Rescuers fear Yuppie 911 - US news - Life - msnbc.com

Many thanks for the offer. Would love to meet up but barring some sort of emergency I will probably have to pass this time. Grew up in MN and all my family is around that area. So any moment not spent racking up miles will have to spent with family. Sisters have already disowned me a dozen times or better and not sure if the next time will be for real or not.

    sincere thanks kind sir

The service offers insurance to pay fees not covered by your state etc....

I did not get the insurance and do not plan to use the 911 service as I won't even go to the doctor without bones sticking out of the skin. I agree, folks should pay for services rendered or requested.

Where in WI is your property? I'll be up at Road America this weekend for the vintage bike races.

I'm on the IA/IL border, at I80 & I74, and it is going to be toasty here. Slight chance for rain. Safe travels! Not sure about weather into WI.

I tried that weather underground (wunderground.com) trip planner and saw those highs.

which usually means afternoon storms too

really on the fence about whether to take the jrocket mesh jacket and liner or my firstgear kilimanjaro touring coat. really cook in the firstgear but can't beat it in morning/evening temps and poor weather.

    No room for both :pout:

I have First Gear mesh, and the First Gear TPG. The mesh with the liner won't cut it if it rains, Tink. If you haven't experienced it, its good for a sprinkle is about all.

I'd be finding a way to get that extra jacket tied onto that bungee system behind you.

If you really CAN'T fit both, I'd go mesh with liners. Being hot and sweaty on the bike for hours and hours is worse than an hour long chill in the morning and evening. JMHO.

(See if there are any laundromats close to the places you are stopping for fuel/food. Maybe you can dry out if its raining).

I have a full rainsuit stashed in the trunk. It's large enough that it should fit over the jrocket mesh jacket.
