Hi all, I recently acquired a 98 VFR, yoshi pipe, K&N, flapper mod done, going to do the PAIR mod soon. The bike runs and rides great, but it is a bit snatchy down low, particularly on/off throttle. The vast majority of my riding is commuting through heavy Seattle traffic. I read that some folks gained much better throttle response down low with a power commander, so I am considering buying one myself. I dont really care about max hp, more about smooth power delivery and mpg. I don't really want to sacrifice any mpg, but I spend so much time in first gear it would be worth it to smooth out the abrupt on/off throttle response.

Should I get a power commander? Are there any other mods that would help out?

Also, I am pretty set on keeping the pipe that's on there, it looks good and its pretty damn loud so the cagers don't run my ass over.

    Thanks!

Most owners of the Power Commander will tell you the same thing, it's a worth the investment. However, most of us have noticed a small drop in MPG but are glad to sacrifice that for a much smoother ride, especially the improvement of the low speed glitchiness. BTW, there are more than a few post on this topic and depending on which PC you choose, you may want to look up the specific PC model thread to see what those users have to say. Most likely you'll fit in with the PCIII category. Since I have a 2009, I have the PCV so my outcome may not match someone else who has your model year VFR.

    Cheers.

Do it, I recommend a custom map. So you get perfect air/fuel ratio thru out the power curve.

I'm currently on the hunt for one. The flat spots and the jerky throttle response are starting to drive me nuts!
