Just got this last week after having several other bikes starting in 2006. This thing is a blast to ride. However I would like to upgrade the seat and do something to free up some decibels from the exhaust. Just enough so that I can hear it running as I go down the road. Any suggestions?

As far as seats go, majority like the Sargent or Corbin seats. Exhaust is a matter of taste, since looks and sound is personal matter of taste. I had the Leo Vince and i was quiet happy with it.

scubaLong will be so jealous you got a silver one. He totaled his and bought a black one a couple years ago. Welcome to the site. Yeah, the seat are pretty much shite to most bums. I have a sargent on my 5th gen that has 70k miles on it and it still sits pretty good. Corbins are heavier and firmer so my guess is they'll last forever. As far as pipes, whew...almost like asking about oil.

Steve Gowing in Fort Collins will make you a custom seat that looks as good as anything you can buy, will fit your ass perfect, and his pricing is competitive with Sargent and Corbin. Last I talked to him he was a little ways out on lead time.

Best to reach him by phone but here's his website. He's off Drake near Woodward Governor.

Thanks for the info guys. Can you tell me more about your black one? Mine is 100% stock, about 15k miles. Maybe you were joking?

I would love to buy my seat locally. Will definitely keep that guy in mind. Don't have the cash as of right now though.

As far as pipes go, there was a thread a long time ago from Derstuka I think that was audio clips of aftermarket pipes. That might be a good place to start.

I checked with Steve in Fort Collins about a seat, he said he is 6-7 weeks out. It would be expensive but probably worth it judging by his pictures of previous work. I sure do hear it above 7k!

I talked to Steve two weeks ago and he was six weeks out. I keep hoping I will stumble on a used Sargent to tide me over until I can have Steve make me one. That way I can resell the Sargent and not loose any money in the deal.

Steve built a new cover for a Corbin I had on my last VFR. It looked like it came right from the factory. He also does all the recovers for the local used dealers (never see a used bike with a torn seat). And everyone I've talked to that's had him do a custom reshape and cover has been pleased.

I love my silver VFR! I have the two brothers exhaust on mine and am very happy with it. Great sound and not over the top loud. I never had the stock exhaust but I have heard stock ones and like my aftermarket setup much more.
