Hey I cant get the cylinder head off of my '84 vf750s. Maybe cause its been on there almost 30 years?

I have to remove it to put a new head gasket seal on it and so I can clean the surface before hand. This is what the new seal looks like,

Ive wacked it with a mallet and pried it from both sides. Even tried to hammer something between the 2 surfaces with no luck. I AM SURE NOTHING ELSE IS HOLDING IT BUT THE OLD SEAL.

ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET A CYLINDER HEAD OFF????

Maybe try a little heat with a small butane torch? Do you have the Honda shop manual?

get one of those air hose adapters that go in the spark plug hole, hook it up and slowly bring the air pressure up. should break the seal if there is nothing still attached.

Make or get some wood wedges or plastic, at least four. Make them to be able to be driven in between head and block. Start on one side or all around (with enough wedges) and slow tap them in. Make sure they don't bottom out. The combined force of all the wedges should pop the head. You may want to put a strap over top of head if you use the air method. I can see the head flying off if it breaks loose all at once. Just a thought.

Will this work if the top is already off of it?

Thats why I wrote "a little heat" Engine oil gets to about 400F a butane torch should be less than that.

DON'T BLAME ME if this goes horribly wrong - as I have no idea if this would work on a motorbike engine - but a long time back I had a similar issue with a car engine. So basically I decided to reconnect just enough to allow me to use the starter motor to crank the engine. Rocker cover went back on loosely to stop oil spray, but no spark plugs or leads were fitted, and only four head bolts very loosely installed - one at each corner, with ample slack to allow the head to lift just a few millimetres. A few seconds of cranking was all that was needed for the compression to build up inside the cylinders to split the head from the block.

Hope that helps and let us know how you get on!
