Hey, everyone. SebSpeed makes a nice clear clutch mod. for the 5th gen., but he doesn't want to sell just the blanks for you to weld it in yourself.

That being the case, I started in on some CAD work to make my own parts. In the process, it occurred to me that there might be some other folks round here that would be interested in getting just the parts and doing their own work too.

Soooooo ...... is anyone interested in a parts kit to do their own clear clutch mod?

The parts will include a base ring about 4 3/4" round, a lexan window and an aluminum top ring. The parts will come in the white and you will need to thread your own holes (6-40 or 6-32), or clearance drill and just use a bolt/locknut combo with loctite. I intend to cut a cork/rubber sheet to make my own flat gasket and source the screws from a local hardware store.

The idea is that many of us like to do a little finish work to really "own" the mod.

To assemble, the main ring would weld to the clutch cover, then the gasket and lexan window recess into the ring. The top ring clamps everything together and some silicone around the edge of the main ring will seal the outer edges of the window and top ring. You can finish however you like (paint, powder, anno) and once it is all together, it won't leak. I have a little powdercoating rig and plan to powdercoat, by the way.

If people are interested in getting parts kits, I would need at least 15 interested parties to make it worth a production run. My initial cost estimate puts each complete kit somewhere in the $125-$150 range (plus shipping). You will need to get your own screws and gasket, although I suppose that if you REALLY need help with that, I could get them for you and send everything together.

I even plan to experiment with some aluminum brazing rod. If that works well, then ANYONE with a MAPP torch would be able to weld the ring in their garage. No TIG or aluminum wire MIG needed!!!!!

If you can't or don't want to weld, then contact SebSpeed.

If you want to tinker, let me know.:thumb:

Sounds good. Can we expect to see the prototype at R3? I'm sure if its the $#!+ you'll get your 15 orders... Hell, I'd be good for 2 ; )

Maybe near fall or winter. Tapped out for descretionary spending at this time.

    Good luck to you.

The amount of work to follow makes my kit look like a bargain! Thanks! :)
