    Welcome Dave

Once you fit the Helibars you will find they make long trips on the VFR a lot more comfortable on the wrists. There is a thread on here with pictures showing how to install them and several solutions to the main hassle - removing the dampers from the old bars.

Where in London are you based? If you have not found them yet you may want to check out londonbikers.com who are a really friendly bunch with informal rides, and regular meets in North London (Ace cafe), Central London - Borough Market and South London at the Blackheath Tea hut. Give me a shout if you are ever near Lake Geneva in the Alps - I will be happy to show you some stunning twisties :)

I'm just outside London, place called Belmont near cheam surrey, i've been to the Ace Cafe a few times but mainly go further south towards the coast, Started fitting the heli-bars today not quite finished, having probs with the inner weights and can't set the bars yet as the seat is away being sorted, I am also fitting some heated grips Rh grip OK but Lh just won't slide on have tried everything I can lay my hands on  so much so I've now pulled the wire out of said grip so I'm not a happy bunny!! And thanks for the offer, if i ever get over your way i'll defiantly come knocking!

Hi Dave, I'm the other side, SE London, Bexley, new to this site as well. Not long bought a 92 VFR that is in need of a lot of TLC as it had been standing in a back garden for 7 years. Just another project to add to the house renovation etc, but love riding it, brings back a lot of memories from the 90's.

    Hi Dave.

If you are still struggling with getting the old dampers out. Remove bar end weight. Remove grip from bar (if grip is really stuck on - use a thin screwdriver to ease back the grip from the bar and then use the straw attachment to squirt WD40 into the gap, work progressively around the grip and it should slide off).
Remove bar from bike. Examine bar, and you will see 4? tiny holes along the side. The two nearest the bar end will have locking tabs protruding from the damper - these need to be depressed before the damper will release. So start by squirting WD40 into all the holes to aid extracting the damper.

Attach the bar end weight to the bar and then wrap the bar in a cloth and clamp horizontally in a vice. Place adjustable wrench against inboard end of bar weight, get a friend to release the two damper retaining tabs by poking a tiny screw driver into holes at the end of the bar, whilst you tap gently on the side of the wrench to draw the damper slowly outwards. Easy should take 5 minutes.

Finally if you really have trouble with anything on your VFR then nip down to Oval Motor Centre Oval Motorcycle Centre
and speak to Matt. He can probably help you sort the grips wiring. Its a fully equipped DIY motorbike garage where you can work on your bike in well lit warm and dry conditions with access to all the right tools and endless tea and if required advice from Matt - who really knows his stuff. The big plus is its run by members of londonbikers.com and they keep the cost very low compared with main dealer rates, and they wont bullsh*t you about needing to fix stuff if its not really needed.

Good luck and post up some photos!
