Here are pics of my connectors with 12,190 miles on the odometer :hurt:
So you know what I will be doing, & I hate wiring!

Had the battery charged and checked. I checked wires for any physical or electrical damage. Wiring looks pretty good for being so old. I also noticed the R/R gets very hot after a couple of minutes. Extremely hot.! Too hot to touch. The R/R is housed in a heatsink, so I assume it has to get hot, but should it be so hot that it can not be touched??

    Battery voltage at 1k rpm: 12.19V - 12.20V
    Battery voltage at 5k rpm: 12.90V - 13.10V

    Stator:
resistance at pin to pin: Less than 1 ohms, with no continuity.

AC Volts at Idle: above 20 ACV.
AC Volts at 5k rpm : above 60 ACV.

Looks like the R/R is not producing enought voltage. I'm guessing it should be around 14.5 volts.

Battery is load tested, pronounced good? A iffy battery can mess with you and the system can act like a bad R/R.

There are 3 readings for each test on the stator, did you do those? Quite often one leg can be good and another toast.

-I agree, with you, R/R readings, chances are its going out. PM tightwad here or VFRD, see if he has any offerings for your 86.

Mello Dude is wise and speaks the truth! Make sure the batter was load tested.

Most cells actually generate about 2.1 to 2.2 volts. So with 6 cells, you should be seeing at least high 12's if not low 13's at idle (and actually when its off, too).

All done. Put in the new R/R from Rick's. Bike voltage is up. Rode her in today and bike is performing better. I can feel it.! Guess the low voltage really messes with performance.

Battery was load tested and passed. Stator was producing good ACV. I will keep an eye on the voltage just to make sure problem is fixed.

Thanks for your help guys. You rock.!!

Glad it worked out, and good call with the Ricks R/R. keep an eye on those volts.
