Hello fellow riders. I live in Nashville, TN. I am constantly looking at CL postings in our area for a good deal on anything with two wheels. I was looking for a honda scooter for my special lady when I saw an ad for a 1984 vf500 for $200!! The pics looked really good and it appears in great shape. I was powerless to resist and called the owner. It has a clean title but has sat for two years. He is cleaning out his shop and wanted to get rid of it. I am going to pick it up tonight and I will post pics tomorrow. I have always wanted an early interceptor and now I have one!!! Looking forward to taking it apart and cleaning it up. I will probably fix it up and sell it and find a more suitable bike for my gf. My current bike is an 2005 sv650s with 23K(i bought it new 6 years ago). I hope that a suitable intro. Looking forward to working on it and meeting some of you guys/girls in the vf world. THanks in advance. Ben
And so it begins................ Ben just jumped in without doing much research here on the history of the VF500, and we all hope he's got a good one there with potential; but at the price he paid, it's most likely going to be a parts bike after lots of frustration. Without a good compression test before buying, it's a roll of the dice. And with most $200, 28 year old VF500s, chances for sucess are not so favorable. But you could get lucky, sure !!
Squirrelman, I could do without your negativity. I am familiar with the vf 500 and at that price I could still part it out and double my money. It seems like you never have anything nice to say. Thats too bad. Forums can be a positive place with the right people. This isn't my first nor last project bike. Next time maybe you should keep your mouth shut. I enjoy working on bikes,,,,busted or rusted. I think you do also. Have a nice day and gofaq yourself. Thanks, Ben
Not so much negativity as a realistic SUMMARY of everything i've read on this site for the past 7 or 8 years............. No need for your outright hostility and offensive implications, Ben. Post #2 and you're telling someone to shut up already ?? Not the way we do it here. I'm very appreciative of the many qualities of any GOOD-RUNNING VF500--smoothest motorcycle engine i've ever ridden--but by now, few run and fewer run right. Nevertheless, no matter what i might think about any particular bike, i've always tried to help to the best of my ability, knowledge, and experience.
Do you always edit your posts a few minutes after you post? Thats a good sign that you should think before you post. I know the pitfalls of buying a older bike. I dont need you talking down to me assuming that I don't know anything."Ben just jumped in..." Leave it alone....You have history of being a dick even if you do know a lot....
OUCH !! Ben, that really hurts a dick-head like me, it do. NOT !!!! Go ahead and defy most statistics: get to work and post up here that you have a great-running VF500 for $200, please.
