Hey, I just upgraded from a 1991 Nighthawk 750 to a gorgeous 1999 Interceptor at DFW Honda a few weeks ago and I really think I'm in love. Ive admired the vfr800 since i saw a brand new 08 sitting there in the dealer about a year ago that was just out of my price range, and what else could happen but a little later in life an amazingly clean 99 happens to show up that already has a Sargent seat, Corbin molded bags, and a touring screen. With me not being at all familiar with available aftermarkets, fuel injection, or electronics (that nighthawk really was a dinosaur in comparison), expect to see me popping up all over the place if i ever have any issues or questions. The only disappointing thing so far with the bike is the sad sad sound of the exhaust. Well it might be sad if there was ANY sound to it. Letting a buddy roll it around the street when i got it tells me that as it sits, i hear the (amazing, unique, and infatuating) cam gear whine over the exhaust. And that's about all ive got for introduction, unless someone pops in that can tell me if the delkevic silencers are worth picking up (ive heard on other bikes that they are great quality & sound but sometimes there are fitment issues).
Micron, Two Bros, are two exhausts that I have heard on a 5th gen that sound good. Welcome! Your lady sure looks pretty.
thanks all. im also looking at the danmoto mufflers, i like the jisu but im not sure it would look right the way that the exhaust fits under the hard bags, might have to just stick with a round can to keep it tucked away. im just really worried about fitment of mufflers with these bags (obviously cant go high mount or shorties [unless i wanna burn the bags]). or maybe i should just look into gutting the stock muffler to ensure proper fitment...
Those Corbin bags are a nice score - hard to come by. I have a high mount on my bike (and a header from a '98 to eliminate the cat and O2 sensors), but I'd have to believe there are various options for replacement exhausts that hold the same line/angle as stock? These bikes make such a great sound with an aftermarket, and it would be a shame to lose the bags just for a replacement exhaust. And while you didn't ask for my opinion, I'll give it anyway: lose the tank bra! Yea, I know what they say about opinions... lol
well i just went by D&D Performance here in fort worth, and i think thats who im gonna go with. checked a couple sound clips off of youtube for d&d vfr's and i like the balance they have between a good sound vs volume. lots of good reviews & their exhausts are insanely popular on any kind of bike in the DFW metroplex. also checked wit them about fitment and decided it wouldnt be a problem (stock cans are 5" diameter/20" length, D&D cans are 4"/17.5"). they said they could work with me if the longer downpipe in their kit causes issues too. not bad at $269 for the aluminum can (whats the point in spending more for black if its tucked under the bag anyway?) d&d doesnt list gen 5 vfr's on their site, so here are the price points if anyone is interested: Part # / Model / Style / Price 601-12A VFR 800 98-01 S/G Alum $269 s/o 601-12B VFR 800 98-01 S/G Blk Satin $296 s/o 601-12C VFR 800 98-01 S/G Carbon $404 s/o
