Fork Seal still leaking

    Ok...I just did a rebuild of my fork. Bushings, seals, dust seals. I used an aftermarket kit. Is this why it's still leaking?

    Did you check to see if the fork tube was nice and smooth. It could have a nick in it which might have caused the trouble in the first place. Also, is the fork tube straight? I would double check both of these and see if there isn't a deeper issue that is causing the fork seal to leak.

    If there was a nick in the tube, it can be a tiny little thing. Try taking a pair of panty-hose and running them along/around the forks. Even the slightest little burr would grab the panty hose.

    Based on what you said, and assuming that you are using the proper tool for seating the seals and that you are also putting in the correct amount of fluid in the forks, then what Squirrelmann said would be the next direction to take. I would also double check the seat area where the seals fits in isn't damaged. That's all I got. Good Luck.

    OEM fork seals are the best to with. Aftermarket makes no improvements here.

    I have just done mine on my 92 VFR750F, I used after market seals that cost GPB 5.00 each. One turned out perfect, the other leaked like a sieve. I replaced the leaking one with genuine Honda seal at a cost of GPB18.00, but used very fine wet and dry paper over some small rust pits first. I now have two perfect seals. I don't know the cause of the first failed attempt, could have been the seal not seating correctly, faulty seal or the slight pitting, but all sorted now.

    a quick update to the above post, the after market seal that was ok is now leaking. I will be replacing it with a genuine Honda part tomorrow. As far as fork seals are concerned I will always use genuine Honda ones in future. However, the genuine Honda fuel pump is GPB 190.00, and I got an after market one that only cost me GPB 75.00 off Ebay, and it is working fine (apparently made in the same factory without the Honda name). So now I am really confused as to what is best for the money. Honda parts are extortionate but if the cheapies don't work, it becomes a false economy.

    I'm not sure it's been established at just how much it is leaking? Is it one seal or both?
    Is it light leakage or heavy. If it is heavy you wil see a good film after the forks are compressed and released? If it is light it will be a slight film with a pronounced ring on the tube where dirt has collected and been pushed bat the wiper.

    I was going to say check for pits, but it sounds like the aftermarket seals blow......... I guess less expensive costs more to do the job correctly...which reminds me I have to check my fork oil levels... where is the fork dipstick located again ...I can't seem to find it.............
