thanks for the link but i was looking for more of a sports approach. i've seen a couple of vf1000r's with a rc51 front end and was wondering if it was possible (on the easier side of possible) to do that on the 700

Gotta tell ya, you'll score more chicas with an extended front end. ;)

Check out Race Tech for gold valves. Are your forks shot? Low on fluid? Check maybe for a set of progressively wound springs too.

haha i don't think my loved one would aprove of me getting ladies left and right and my forks or fine i went through them last year and even considered racetech emulators. i'm looking for the swap for both bling factor and performance. i'm also putting vfkr upper and lower fairings on it (yes a thread will be started once the project is in motion.) so it's a complete overhaul almost.

Great, several of the members here have that same bike. I would suggest Ohlins but that would be like some dude with a 78 Pontiac fourdoor with 2K $ worth of wheels..

I've actually seen read through that whole thread a few times, and used it as a reference since it's a beautiful project. and i don't mean to sound like a picky prick but i was looking for some inverted forks since the bling factor is still a factor in this swap.

As my bike is 100% stock, & untill something goes RELEE BAAD, It's going to stay that way, outside of some Lighting Mods, "Safety First"!
So the only other thing I can say is to get out there & do your own R&D, as it seems no-one here has the info you want, or they aren't willing to share right now!

    Good-Luck!

I've seen RC51, R1, F4i, Zx10, CBR etc. Then you need to work on wheels, brakes, shocks ..... - On a gen 1? Dunno if I would travel that road.

    J. C. Whitney has a front end for that bike you might be interested in.

It's called the Cast-iron Cruiser, modeled on a Harly-Davidson Sportster from the same year and is guaranteed to make your bike look even older than it is, bringing out more of the antique aspect that fits so well with most bikes from '83-'85 period. Besides, that front end will get far more attention at your local drive-in than any R1 setup !

    Any updates on this?

I'm considering a front end swap from a Kawasaki. If you swap the steering spindle you can use just about anything. The main thing to look out for are the forks being long enough. I would stick with 600cc and up bikes.

Some folks talk about the trail changing, but I haven't experienced the change yet.

Most newer sport bikes run about 24* rake and the older bikes about 27*. The trail is going to increase slightly when doing the swap. Increasing the trail usually adds straight line stability while losing some quickness in the steering.

I would recommend finding a bargain on a complete front end. Finding a bike hit in the rear for example. Then researching the specifics of it. Like cartridge fork or damper rod, adjustable preload, adjustable rebound, compression? Are the fork legs beefy? Is the rim style one you like?

If it's a nice upgrade, length is good and the price is right, then you've found your setup.
If you've got the ability to shell out big bucks on a really low miles, modern front then your choices really open up.
