IMG_2803.jpg 100_2500.jpg Hi, I enjoyed a 1986 VFR750 for many years, am back (with several bikes inbetween, the last a Ducati ST2 with nagging mechanical problems) with a 1998 VFR800, 42,000 kilometres, that looks like new! Heated grips, fog lights, the rest stock. Could not be happier, especially for about $4k !!!

    Chuck

p.s. I need both back seat grab rails, anyone have them for sale?

Congrats and welcome aboard. Is it just me, or lots of similarities (visually) between the Duc and VFR? Hope you enjoy your new ride!

personally, I think the VFR kicks the Ducs ass in this case. Apples to apples, the VFR800 is a better bike than the ST2 hands down IMO.

should mention I am NOT a ducati hater. I have lusted after monay ducatis. I just think the VFR is a better sport tourer than the ST2. I LOVE the 916, the 996, the 1098, the 748, etc... I even like a lot of their retro stuff. The ST2 is nice, just not VFR nice.

Welcome back to the VFR. The '86 750 was and still is a great bike, so is the 5th Gen. I bought a brand new one back in '99 (that I wish I still owned). It too is a great machine.

Well, previous to the Duc I had a VTR1000 Superhawk for several years (gas tank is way to small and touring required many stops per day, otherwise a great bike), all kinda the same riding position, horsepower,,, but I will say the 2 valve Ducati has amazing low to mid range torque for only 84 hp, but the Viffer has great top end power for 100 hp.

But the shifter on the Duc kept jamming, I waited 5 weeks for parts from Italy, the dry clutch/clutch slave is a major flaw with nagging problems and needed new plates and basket when I sold it.... all with only 27,000 kilometers.

I get on the VFR and it worry free riding.

    best regards, Chuck
