Good or not-so-good for a frist bike?

    If you've ridden before, don't go 250. You will need DISCIPLINE to 'grow into' the VFR. You will want to snap the throttle and you won't have any idea of what it then takes to turn or stop that power and weight. But, if you have discipline you can gain confidence slowly. I started on a Baby Interceptor VF500F and I wouldn't trade that experience. I know my cornering on the VFR is better because of the confidence that lighter, nimbler bike gave me. You can build that with the VFR, but it'll take patience and discipline. Even with that experience, I sometime underestimate the impact on that weight on stopping distance or the amount of steering input in turns. Gotta 'grow into it' slowly and remember it isn't as flickable as my old steed.

    Most don't have much discipline or patience and drop the bike at low speed and then low side being aggressive at high speed or worse underestimate stopping distance at an intersection. Only experience teach this and you need to last long enough to learn.

    Not a first bike in my book, but doesn't seem like it will be your first bike. Just remember patience and discipline.

    Sweet 2003 model Silver and Black Honda VFR 800 Interceptor with 24K miles, good tires, excellent mechanical condition, new tags with expiration 03/2013.
    Bike was dropped once on its left side while at walking speed in a parking lot when I slipped on some oil getting out of a parking spot, resulting in superficial scratches to left side fairing near left turn signal (see photo). There are also scratches from wear and tear on the bike, but no other damage other than slight cosmetic flaws. Tires are in very good shape and will last a long time still.
    I am selling this bike because I only use it very rarely, since the girlfriend, the dog, the surfboard and the mountain bike won't fit...

    I actually started off riding a little honda cb 200 as while growing up with my friends when we just little kids. As we grew older a good friend of mine ended up getting a Buell M2 Cyclone as his first bike. The bike had a 1200cc V twin in it and had so much torque you couldnt even roll into first gear without the bike wanting to pull a wheelie on you. Now with that being said my first bike was an 87 VFR 700F. I could not believe how heavy the bike was when I first started riding it. I to did the same thing as you are doing and went to the motorcycle rider safety course before I even got on the road with the bike because I knew that I would have either A) dropped it (which I did anyways coming to a stop early on in my first couple of rides) or B) killed myself in traffic because of how heavy and powerful the bike was. Like everyone else is mentioning to you on here, as long as you respect the machine and understand the power that the VFR makes you should be fine. It took me about a month to finally be comfortable riding around on the bike without worrying about dropping it or making a mistake on it while out riding. I actually ended up selling my old 87 to a friend of mine that had no motorcycle experience period. He ended up paying me about 3300 dollars for the bike and I begged and pleaded with him to go to a motorcycle safety course before he even set foot near the bike. Needless to say he took the bike out the same day he bought it and an hour later he ended up dumping the bike and completely ruined the right side plastics. Case in point, you seem mature enough in understanding that the VFR is a powerful motorcycle and that it will take some time to get used to, but in the end you will have a bike that will last you many many years and give you both an enjoyable and when wanted exhilarating ride.
