Hello everyone :yo: My name is Paul, AKA: Apittslife. I Recently purchased a 1983 V45/VF750 Interceptor ( Not quite sure which designation is correct?) She has just over 12,000 miles, & was a one owner bike out of tennesee that was garage kept her whole life. The only thing that was wrong with her is a bad clutch master-cylinder. ( which is presently being rebuilt ) She has sat for Many years, But will start up instantly, & had new Tyres & brake pads prior to Hybernation . I am planning to do an oil & filter change, an Anti-freeze flush & refill, & spark plug change, as well as a hydrolic fluid change. Then I have to enroll into a drivers class, as I haven't been on a bike for any real amount of tyme in almost 20 yrs. I want to get back into bike riding, & I want to do so with as much knowlege & trianing as I can. Sincerely, Paul
Gorgeous bike mate, I just aquired the same one a few weeks ago, except mine was a non-runner. (no compression in one cylinder) Valve adjustment fixed it, had tight intakes that wouldn't seat. she sat for 5 years. Now, cleaning carbs as she lives! Only has 13000km on it. which is what, 7,000 miles? got her for $600! =D Mines the red colour
Very beautiful 1st gen!! Welcome! Be sure to pick up a genuine Honda repair manual, which is highly recommended when working on these bikes. Also, as beautiful as these 1st Gens are, they suffer from valve train issues. Be sure to check the valve clearances andhave those Cams checked for wear. Above all, take care of it, and ride safe!
Thanks Guys, I paid out $1200.00 US. I am planning on an Oiling Modification, (the one that uses the filter adapter) & I will be having the guy that is rebuilding my Clutch MC do the valve adjustments & carb sync, but I will have to wait a bit. $$ I will be taking it easy on the bike, & myself, we both are old & she is way better looking & I am going to try my best to keep her that way! Paul
Very nice bike. With a little suspension and engine tuning you can have a great ride. Take care of those stock mufflers. They look good and are non existent. Unless you have a set stashed away like some of us do..................................
Welcome to the forum Paul. Nice looking find you have there....enjoy it. This site is frequented by some great guys with tons of knowledge and info about these great old bikes. Spend some time searching the forums and if you can't find an answer to your specific question, don't be afraid to ask. I'll warn you tho, there are a couple of folks who will question your sanity for jumping into the "1st gen pool" just take it with a grain of salt... I'm a "mature" rider myself, and am knee deep in the "reanimation" of a VF750F that wasn't pampered like yours. It's a winter project that is stretching long into the spring, so seeing pics of a nice one like yours is good inspiratioin for me to keep going!
I picked up the Clutch master today, & it was pretty dead at work, so I did quite a bit to the bike today. Re-installed the MC, & reverse bled the system. Then pulled the tank, & dumped the fuel into my ranger. Checked the Air cleaner ( Surprisingly Clean ), pulled the lower cowl & changed the oil & filter, then cleaned all the cob-webs out of the bike, washed & waxed her up all shinny, polished all the black-chrome & the rims, lubed the drive chain & checked the rear bulbs as I have no rear turn signals ( Bulbs tested good ). Tomorrow I will fill her up with premium fuel, & fire her up & see if she will move & shift thru the gears. ( if tyme permits ). Paul
Welcome Paul...........So those photos at the start of the thread are before you washed and waxed. I'm jealous great find you have there.
Thankyou for the welcome, & Yes, the pics are taken as she was when I picked her up ( The Camera likes her  ). Don't get me wrong, there are condition issues, but they are very minor concidering her age. Sincerely, Paul
Did you get a oiling mod kit yet ?... If you did where did purchase it. Are they still avaliable ?...
Hello fastedge, No I haven"t done the oil mod yet. probably won't this riding season. the oil mod I want is the twin line filter adaptor one, it's still avialable for 225.00 Paul
Welcome to the zoo Paul, that's a heckuva deal on that bike! Sounds like you're already well on your way to working through potential issues, good on ya for doing some homework. I had a gen 1 ('RC15'), and they're a very relaxed way to get a V-4 thrill. One comment I have is that your post said the bike had new tires 'before hibernation', and I would take a good look at the sidewalls on those tires. If they show any fine cracking (from drying out and age) I would replace them. They may have good looking tread; but if the sidewalls are deteriorating they could fail and mess up that pretty girl.
THANK-YOU, for your concern regarding the condition of the tyres. It is greatly appreciated! Not only did I personally scrutinize the tyres, but I have a couple friends that know their way around bikes, & they looked the bike over & inspected the tyres, & she passed muster. If the tyres, had ANY signs of deteriation (SP?) I would be buying a new set. I am going to start a new thread in 1st gen forum. sincerely, Paul
Good luck with her. Money matters but your precious ass belongs on the newest, best bike you can afford. Cheap is NEVER better. Get a ride on a 4th gen or newer and see what primitive ox-carts gen 1s are, which you'll never know unlees you try one. Don't glorify your antique unless you've tried a new bike and know the differences. Old bikes may be cheap and barely OK to ride but they lack the quality of modern engineering and manufacturing that reliability- and safety-minded riders expect.
Hi squirrelman, :yo: First Off, I like & prefer Old & Antiquated! ( I can afford new/newer ) Second, outside of taking friends bikes out for a quick spin, I haven't seriously ridden a bike in 22 yrs. & have "NEVER" had a cycle endorsment. Getting that new bike would be premature & stupid! ( I have ridden newer bikes, But right now I am not comfortable on one) My VF750 is a good first bike to get my feet wet again, & learn how to properly ride a bike, as I didn't do a very well before! I may end up liking the sport-touring bike & buy a newer generation VFR, on the other hand, I may decide I would rather have a gold-wing, or "gasp" a Harley! Sincerely, Paul
Don't listen to squirrelman about Gen 1's. He rides an inferior Gen 2 and thinks the Gen 1's are as bad. Which they are not. They will handle better and stop better and......................better....................and.............. better..................:boink:
