    Hey everybody,
Let me just start out by saying that i'm a mechanical idiot and i need some help. The main fuse on my 1990 vfr blew damaging the connectors, wires and fuse. As per the dealer i replaced the relay too. So i cut off the damaged ends and replaced the connectors and so forth. The problem i have is that i dont remember how to re-wire the thing. Not sure where the RED, RED/WHITE, GREEN/RED & YELLOW/RED wires attach to the relay. The honda service guys would only help if the bike were 'in front' of them (yeah, so i can get charged too much for it)...so if anybody can help me out that would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

    Thanks, Mike

my starter relay was melted when the R/R burned itself out. I cut out my plug and used spade connectors soldered on with shrink tubing. Did it my three phase alternator too. Three butt connectors soldered with shrink tubing....

As you look at the relay on the left side of the bike (clutch side) colours are: Bottom Left is RED - Bottom Right is Red w/ White - Top Left is Yellow/Red - Top Right is Green...

Hope this helps yah out/ You should probabaly check voltage at your terminals with the bike off as well as idling and a steady rev at 4000 or so to see if them diode cookers are working...You can get a Ricks Regulator which is superior to any Honda shtuff. Check all your connectors too....

Someone will come along with a picture of the 4-pin connector for you, but the red and red/white wires connect to the fuse post point on the "downstream" side of the 30A fuse and the exact pin position doesn't matter. The green/red and yellow/red are the drive and return lines for the relay coil and polarity probably does matter.

Polarity on the relay coil probably doesn't matter either.

Hey it was a simultaneous post and you beat me by few minutes--i didn't see your post before i sent mine, so don't take it personal...you did a great description and deserve a pat on the back and a thanks from the OP. i would have included a photo if had an easy way to get it uploaded, but my computer monitor is missing it's tube and the cats use it for a litter box...

ridervfr and kennybobby thank you very much. and rider, you were right. after your explanation i knew exactly what to do. and THANKS A LOT for this site also. its been more helpful to me then anybody over at the honda dealership. as it turns out the connectors to the R/R were pretty bad too so, thanks to vfrworld i'm ordering the vfrness and a new R/R from wiremybike.com and i think that should do the trick...to get the bike running that is. its a long story but i am the original owner of the bike and it got stolen back in 96'. six years later las vegas pd calls me up to let me know they recovered it as part of some sting. everybody says for me to just 'dump' the thing cause its gonna cost too much to fix up, but hey, a little at a time should do it and i aint in no rush. just cant get rid of it, i just love the 'sound' of my bike with that low rumble and that gear drive....and it found its way back to me so thats gotta mean something right? thanks again rider and kenny, you've been a great help
