So, I bought another Fifth Gen VFR. I plan to make a street fighter. I purchased the bike yesterday for Approx. $800. I don't think it was a bad deal. I have tons of extra parts, so if you need something, let me know. So I took off the cluster gauges and my bike wont start without them how can I start it without (2000 VFR800)? The bike runs, just need a new overflow tank, left handle bar, sub frame, and rear wheel. HOw can I build a custom sub frame? Please help me out with tips to help me build the street fighter. I want to powder coat the frame and swing arm in a candy color. I want to keep the gauges but, I hate the size of the cluster, any suggestions? The bike has 30,000 miles. I need a new right crank case cover, where can I get one relatively cheap?

I'm not sure if the 5th gen is similar to the 6th gen, but I was able to start mine without the cluster. You just need to make sure the tip sensor is plugged in, with it not plugged it the engine will not start and I dont see it in your pictures. Mine looked like a big green horseshoe, not a very good visual but i cant think of anything better.

As for the crank case you could buy a new one for about $200 depending on your dealer. Mine wasn't that ground down as bad as that one when I dropped it, so I sanded it all smooth then painted it. I have seen people use 6th gen sub frames on the 5th gen, but i think there is a lot of fab work to do. Over all $800 wasn't bad as an estimate you can probably get that back in parts, or spend 1000-2000 in new/used parts depending on what you have lying around.

Thanks, yeah I found the horse shoe thing.

I am in the process of disassembling the bike. I tried to remove the left handle bar. They wont budge. It turns out, the last owner lowered the bike three inches so, kickstand doesn't work properly. I purchased cbr clip ons to continue with the lowered stature of the bike. Besides that I don't know wheter to get an oem subframe and build a custom fiberglass panel over that. Or whether I should build a custom subframe.

Are the allen bolts frozen or is something else keeping you from taking off the handle bar? I have had to spray WD40 on bolts and wait a while before then use a screwdriver in the gap to widen the opening a bit after loosening the allen bolts. There is also a ring at the top of the fork tube that has to be removed before they'll slide over it.
