I have a little Garmin unit that I use on my bike. - It cost $89, compared to my iPhone which cost many time that amount. I don't care if the Garmin gets destroyed but I would be lost without my phone.

I'm still trying to figure out why the clear map holders on top of the tank bags are so darn big when those GPS gadgets are so small.

I agree about the phone. If it was good enough for ET is should be good enough for a bunch of candy ass bikers..

You must mean those cyberfriends like Tila Tequila and Justin Beiber. BB don't do guilt trips or a website get in some contest to see how many "friends" he can collect.

I suggest you read up on just what some of those social engineering sites offer in the way of serious bullying of teens to the point of several suicides, all manner of real perverts and chickenhawks, inside shit about Mamma Kardashian pinping her underage kids already and you are worried about me? LOL

Just for shits and gaggles, organizations some named and many I am certain unknown as yet, are using search functions to elicit information to profile students and job applicants and who knows what else. In one recent article a major university "required" that students submit thier Facebook and Twitter account names.

Gosh now Smiley, isn't that what friends are for?

But hey, if ya look, I have some "likes" but mostly I think, from dudes that have a greater ability to think than others.

I can understand mild schizophrenia, but the "royal" we has always been sort of confusing.

Thanks for keeping your sermon short.

Gosh Billy, you should be an expert on bullying. I have seen you taking pot shots at Chicky. Why? Are you trying to get her to eat a bullet?

You contradict yourself by pointing out that social networking can be detrimental to college and job applicants. Then you use the "likes" you have received to somehow give your posts credibility. That doesn't work so well with people that have a greater ability to think than others.

You are not very original. You find elaborate ways to say simple things.
Here is a fine example of speaking simply and plainly. Even you should be able to understand it. "Fuck off."

Care to try again? Think about it a little longer this time.

Back on-topic. If you get a Garmin (or whatever make) be sure it is one of the "lifetime-maps" types. I love my Garmin 2610, because it has real buttons that I can push with my gloves on. I hate my Garmin 2610 because maps are $100 a pop. I hate my Garmin 2610, because the stupid connector puts the speaker at the power plug and not anywhere near my ear. But I like the cute, small, convenient TomTom even less because it's touch-screen only.

Why paper maps are not enough/why GPS is not enough: I ride as motorcycle marshal for the MS Society pedal bike rides. The paper strip maps are great for following the track. But for telling the EMS where you are when a bike rider needs help, they're useless.

Fuck off is a great rejoinder evidencing that you have no idea what you are talking about much less what I am talking about. College students and some job applicants are reqired to submit thier social engineering access portals. Not real popular in most circles and most likely at the bottom line unconstitutional. So knock your self out collecting friends on the various sites like some wet behind the ears teenny bopper.

I take pot shots at most evryone. LOL.. Gotta love the net for shit like that. The old Latin "In Vino Veritas" could be given a new twist to read " In Cyberspace Veritas" OMG !! two with one blow.. Adding a word to a dead language and filling space between your ears previously nearly empty.

Chicky? Just caught her in a couple of those well rounded tales of derring do and when questioned about same, she cried foul or I am picking on women or I'm gay or a dope fiend or an alcoholic or a child molester ect.. Same old shit one more time..

Gotta tell ya pal ,it sure sounds like you have a big thing for anyone that has an education. So what I will do next time around , I will try to use small one-syllable words and short sentences in an attempt to make myself understood.

I prefer speaking to educated people. It generally makes for a more enjoyable chat. However, education and intelligence are two different things. An educated prick is still an educated prick.
I understood perfectly what you are talking about in regards to social networking. You still do not understand me or my posts. You need to try harder. Really, put a little more effort into it.

In regards to Chicky... you still post your drivel in her thread when it has nothing to do with you. Many of us read your objections to her texting while riding. Personally, I think it was quite stupid of her to do that. However, you can't seem to post and be done with it. You are the classic troll. I know this term has been applied to you before and it is overused these days, but not in this case.

One nice thing about the Garmin 660 is you can put an SD card inside so that you don't use up all the memory on th devise if you choose to use the MP3 feature. Maybe you can with others too I don't know. I put a 4 GB chip in mine and have loaded 567 MB of music on there. Used up a quarter of the space and have enough music to listen non stop for about 10 hours. I can live with re-runs at that rate. Maybe eventually I will load that bugga right up.

I am getting so ready for R3. Think maybe I will start a thread called R2 to R3. By the time I get to Mexico, I might be seeing R2D2.

But what the hell. I will have 567 MB of MP3 in my 660 while on my VFR 800A riding the I-5 and I-401 to Mexico then back the I-405 to the S-101 to complete my R2 to R3 while enjoying my freedom 55.

If that is what you prefer then that is what you should do. Like someone once said, "Dont let nothin but fear hold you back". We could also say that education and the yearly average consumption of Hostess Twinkies by Albanian midgets are two different things.

Kudos for looking up that stuff about the social engineering sites. I hope you read about the part where once you toss something out on the net it's literally forever and that the wiser heads are out there telling it like it is.

Aww come on your posts are strightfoward and pretty basic. A few too many cliches but easily understood.

If you want, just like looking up all that potentially negative stuff that the social engineering site can bring down on your head, go back further to get a handle on La Chica.. who may be motorcycings parallel to Chastity Bono, more specifically all that BS about tickets and courts. Further down the road she even brags about that very stupid and dangerous act of thumbing in some ETA at 100mph. Not real smart.

Both barrels? IMO she's a liar.

How bout I give you the last word on this one? I have to work on my "friends" collection..

After my distressed 13yro daughter had talked to me about her school friend who'd recently attempted suicide in the end my best response was to make her talk to my own father and carefully understand what he'd went through to survive at the very end of WW2 as a 10 yro with his 8yro sister. They'd barely escaped with their lives as they witnessed instant death many times around them by constant bombing, rockets, bullets, torpedos, being sunk, saved, injured by shrapnel, starvation then freezing as they somehow avoided being killed by a massive invading army intent on killing everyone they found in rightious retribution as they made there way by land then sea over 600miles to eventual safety.

For now Face book or school bully taunts hold very little power over her, maybe the impact wont last but perhaps it would be better for all people to have a reality check about whats most important in life every so often and never be afraid to listen.

Good stuff. Would that all kids had their heads screwed on that tight and had that sort of advice from parents and grandparents.

Your take on this mandatory submission and outright spying by greater powers on regular folks who use these sites? IMO "they" will do any bloody thing they can get away with.

You completely missed what I was saying, so I must not have been clear. I don't put a lot of stock in how many "friends" a person has here at VFRWorld or any other site. I was just poking at you for referring to those that use a GPS as candy asses. It was both convenient and funny that you don't have any friends here, so I used it.

I didn't have to look up that stuff on social networking sites. I know people that have had issues with their employment due to things they have posted on sites like Facebook. That bell cannot be unrung. (Another cliche for you!)
I agree that texting while riding is not a very bright thing to do. I don't do it while riding my bike or driving my car.

I think I have cluttered up this thread enough. I will stop now.

The wife knew I wanted a GPS. She got me a Tom Tom for Christmas in 2010. I will never tell her that it wasn't exactly what I meant, but it works pretty well. The Tom Tom will go with me on my bike trip next month. I will have maps and will use the Tom Tom to tell me where the hell I am located when I get lost. I don't intend on mounting it on the bike. It really isn't bike friendly.

This is all I use my very basic bike-mounted GPS for, an electronic map to tell me where the hell I'm at so I don't have to carry multiple paper maps.
