Vf500 slow throttle help - YouTube

Either I have the throttle cables attached wrong, or they are going bad - I'm not sure.

But when I have the cables removed, the throttle spring snaps TIGHT and fast. Very solid. As soon as I reattach the throttle cables, it just creeps. I don't remember it going this slow before taking the carbs off to clean it. I dont ride the bike TOO often, its been a few weeks at least, and I can't remember if it returned very quick or not.

Any suggestions? Did they cable just go bad? It doesn't appear to be binding. I'm just not sure. Thanks for any input!

Your throttle cables are too tight. The throttle grip should turn slightly before the throttles actually open.

    OR

Your throttle tube is worn and/or dirty. Remove it and clean it. It doesn't need any lube. If it is worn it won't operate freely.

Thanks ! Any info on adjusting the cables? I will be honest i can't seem to figure out how to give them anymore slack. It does seem to be too tight to me, but also possibly dirty tube it seems as well.

I have never worked on a VF500. If it's anything like my CBR954, the biggest changes can be made where the cables attach to the carbs. I bet you got them a bit tight when you put the cables back. I did that the first time I had the engine out of my CBR. I learned that it's better to go ahead and check that before you put the air box back on. Sorry, that's all I got. Perhaps someone else will chime in.

Sticking is the problem in most cases. If you remove the cables from both ends then you can check if it is one of them.
I have experienced almost the same and the culprit was the throttle sleeve sticking to the clip on.

Thanks for the help guys. Cleaned the cables and lubed - throttle is perfect now.

Put the carbs back on and put the bike back together. Fired right up! Idled a bit high, adjusted the idle screw and now its super happy. Bike just SCREAMS. Hitting on all 4's very well. Wish I had a sync tool, and more importantly knew how to use it. As of now they are just bench-synced.
