Ummm, no one else has suggested just using the OEM trunk? Fits my 8lb 15.4" Dell Precision M65 and lots of other crap easily... and doesn't upset the handling and looks as much as some might think or say.

Adding my .02 late in the game, but when I had a low-speed high-side (rear-wheel lockup into a turn), I was very glad my laptop was wrapped in a padded case, inside my givi hardcase. it came out nearly unscathed (I broke a toe due to a 10' toss/bounce/slide on the pavement). ATGATT includes your electronics, too!

    I have:

    Givi Wingrack
    Givi hardcase (E360)
Tom Bihn "Brain Cell" Tough Protection for Your Laptop: the Brain Cell Laptop Bag by: TOM BIHN

The plastic mounting triange on the side of the brain cell was sandwiched between the laptop (MacBook Pro 15") and the side of the hardcase. The aluminum case is one of the older pressed style (vs the milled billet they now use), so it dented it a tad, but it took me a couple weeks to notice, and then it took a couple more to work out how it happened. It's pretty small, and didn't break anything. Laptop still works great, 18mos later.

I might want to sell my givi laptop bag. It snaps on to any givi sidecase or top case mounts. Just remove with the givi key when you get to work and carry the whole bag in with you. Let me know if you need pics. I could sell for $100 shipped lower 48.

Funny, this thread is from 2009, but I'll still chime in. I've always carried my laptop in a backpack and have done this for about 20 years now. I just installed the Honda OEM hard cases with liners which eliminates the backpack. I can't imagine as to why I didn't do this many years ago ..........

Mine made it from here to central Claifornia and back in a tank bag, pouring rain and all. Survived fine. Garbage bags are your friend

Methinks Randy was in the bag with that one. Either that or I have the wrong kind of tankbag.

Me used to use a dedicated lap-top bag that me modified with a grommet kit and bungie hooks that ran thru the interior of the bag to the outside. At that point you basically have a home made tail bag. I used saftey wire to tie off the bungies to the length me wanted. Bastardizing English is big fuN...

Gud thing u gots a yab! yah Know!

I lined the inside of the tank bag with a plastic garbage bag. Have done that with all my bike luggage. Those outside rain covers for thosee bags are OK for light rain for a few minutes but that is about it. Considered wearing garbage bags under my Tourmaster jacket seeing as that seems to be the only way those will be waterproof as advertised.

You use a netbook, though, Randy. Probably half the size of a laptop (prob means notebook, though as laptops don't really exist anymore). The difference in weight and size of a notebook would mean putting it in a box or bag behind to me unless you had a specially designed tank mount. I hated riding with my notebook in a backpack. Like Drew I noted it was ok for short trips, but once I took it on a 3 hour tour... I got lost and had to make a radio from coconuts (wait wrong story...where was I....) Oh, yeah my back was killing me. The netbook I have now can ride pretty much anywhere, but the notebook only goes packed away in a bag behind now whether it the givi topbox, or a soft tailbag, it's always behind and centered.

Methinks methinks is a bit archaic but certainly no more a bastardization than some of the texting terms at the ton or less. or is it the ton or fewer?

My source? The Canadian version of the Oxford Dictionary. all twelve pages..;)

Well speak of the devil..Howdy Chicky!

Android usage sometimes sux. Fat dried up old finggers on a small screen. I cleaned that up a lot. And yup Reg, it is a notebook. But I think that a lap top would have fit in my saddle bags and survived the same way. I don't think the ride in the saddle bags would be rough enough to cause andy concern and the palstic bags would keep it dry. But if you can get it is your tank bag, my point is I guess, is that the ride was not so rough that it caused any concern for the computer. It still works fine. And I may just bring it with me this year again.

Lots of Queens up there in the frozen North? Next damn thing ya know they will want to be getting hitched.. BB has a sure cure for that. Start showing vids and films of them getting it on in grammar and middle school health classes. The parents will love that..

My 15" plasma TeeVee is welded to my Helibars. Anybody got a way to keep it and Oprah dry? I'd ask Randy for that leaky jacket of his but, he'd probably turn me down flat. That's OK though. That dayglo green sucks.

I use a backpack for my laptop. The work commute (contracting) is 204 miles round trip. It's easier if you just adjust the straps so the bag rests mostly on the seat behind you.

Here ya go Randy. Just a hop and a skid in the rain a tad North of Seattle. You will be speaking to Karin who is a dynamite lady and a hell of a trivia player..

She also shows at SoundRiders SBNW.

Motorcycle luggage, hard soft motorcycle luggage, racks, touring luggage | Ventura America&countryid=USA

One of the best products from Ventura that gets little play are thier headlight protectors.. The one on my 91 is Lexan and about 15 years old. Replaced the Velcro several times but the protector keeps on keeping on. The sales pitch is to check the price for one for "your" bike then check the price for a busted module.
