'86 500 Petcock seal

    Is it really just the o-ring that seals it or am I missing something? Very much considering some sort of goop.

    I cut a very thin piece of fuel line and used that. Hasn't leaked yet.

    My cork seal was all nastied up so I just removed the whole thing. You'll need to take a bit of care to ensure it seats right, but once on it's not going anywhere. Just be sure you're using fuel line, not vacuum hose or anything not meant for use with gas.

    i had the same problem on my 86 i used a r19 o ring for the fuel system and sanded it down to the on/off wheel and hasn't leaked

    Just to be clear this is the sealing surface between the tank itself and the petcock assembly.
