hey guys. got a buddy who is seriously considering this 1984 750. He asked me about it and I will probably go see it this week. I have already warned him about the first generation VF cam issues and apparently the clutch slips a little (either old fluid, old lines, worn clutch or some combination)

Anyways, wanted some feedback on what ya'll thought about this bike!

Looks really tidy with low milage. I'll buy it if its free delivery?

Just kiddin but it would make the perfect restore if thats what someone wanted. If the milage is genuine chances are the Cams are still good and the clutch shouldnt be worn - probably just a combination of lack of use and wrong/old oil. Buy it!!

Is your friend capable of wrenching on his own bike? Why not convince him to buy a more dependable 2nd gen or newer?

For that kind of money he would be much happier and money ahead finding a gen 2.

Personally, I'd pass unless the price is VERY negotiable. If your buddy is absolutely dead set on having a gen 1 bike, then check it out thoroughly and make an offer. That means pull the cam covers and check for wear. Also listen carefully for loose timing chains. But if he's looking because it's Spring and he's got bike fever, then there are plenty of bikes out there that are better values for the money. Like the others said, if he wants an Interceptor, 2K will buy a nice gen 2 model, maybe even a gen 3 if he's patient.
Don't get me wrong, I love my VF and am having a blast with the "reanimation" But I bought it as a project, and paid accordingly. If I can get 2 grand for mine when I'm done, I'll list it for sale the day it's finished (at the current rate, should be June or so....) I know, TOE, "quit yappin' and get to wrenchin'!!!"

Went and saw the bike today. The bottom dollar cash in hand price was $1,800. In decent shape, but still seems high for a bike that old. Clutch is also apparently slipping, looked at the clutch fluid and it did not look bad. Brake lines front and back have all been replaced with steel lines. New front turn signals as you can see. Any additional thoughts from these pics?

Looks like it's all there... What's the extra wiring for on the right side? Has he wired up a fan switch (just a guess)?

    Yea those tires are ...hopeless.

This guy actually added accent lights to a classic bike. Whatever.
