So I've noticed that the VFR is making a clanking noise during initial acceleration (from a stop releasing the clutch 3-4K rpm).
I am thinking it's the chain. It looks like the original chain aka 18,000 miles..
I picked up a new chain and sprockets.

It also seems to be surging/lugging at 5-7K rpms..

    Anyone have any ideas? :frown:

I will be doing the following maintenance this weekend:
    -Replacing the chain/sprockets
-Changing the oil & oil filter
    -Chainging air filter
    -Replacing brake & clutch fluid
    -Removing the PAIR system
    -Checking bolts for correct torque

Put it up on the center stand, start and put in 1st gear..let idle and watch the chain. I bet you see it "catching" which means you have some stuck links.

Also, some owners report a low spot in the 5k range. Some engines are smoother than others.
