Is currently not running. Supposedly it ran a few years ago but the fuel tank rusted so it was parked ...or something like that.
Have not had time to spend with it yet but that will be changing after April.
It may run ??? It may have varnish in the carbs ???

I figure I will have some fun taking it down and learning what condition it is in.

Maybe I can revive it and get some of that V4 sweetness again.

I do have the side covers and faring; but the windscreen is broken

Welcome to the forums, and specifically the "1st Generation Victim's Club" Looks like quite a project ya got yerself there. Take a while and head over to the gen 1 forums - read up on what everyone else is doing with their projects. Don't be afraid to ask questions - there are lots of knowledgeable folks here to help out. But be warned, there are also quite a few folks here that will question your sanity for buying a decrepid old VF!
If you're going to be digging into the fuel system, here's the absolute gospel as told by TOE CUTTER: http://vfrworld.com/forums/mechanics-garage/22449-cleaning-carbs.html
And here's the most important thing to remember when you're starting to tear things apart: DO NOT SEPERATE THE CARBS FROM THE ALUMINUM MANIFOLD THAT HOLDS THEM ALL TOGETHER!

    thanks
I saw the admonition about separating the carbs on here somewhere ...but have not found the reason why.
Oh well, I can take advise.
As I get into this I will be spending more time in the mechanics and 1st gen sections, I think

Two reasons: The plastic tubes that carry fuel between the carbs are EXTREMELY brittle being 30 years old now. They will certainly crack and crumble if you subject them to any stress such as pulling the carbs apart from each other. Also, as soon as the mechanical linkages begin to seperate, the small springs wedged between the throttle adjustment shafts launch themselves into the darkest recesses of your garage. Or worse.
