U shouldn't need to remove the whoe air box, what gen bike do u have? I only needed to remove top cover of air box.
Check out Drainfade.com for a step b step, all else fails drill the suckers out and use a removing tool and replace the screws. Good luck! Good mod though, no more performance but no popping etc from the afermarket can!

they should just come out as they are (should) just past finger tight. if they have been cross threaded in then you have to drill the heads off and then use an extractor. good luck and dont get lil bits down the bores

I wouldn't leave off the stacks, this will have a detrimental affect on performance.
As part of the intake system they are necessary, u can also go for slightly taller aftermarket stacks.
I unbolted the raidiators to get access to the front valve and found the pair valve cap easy to remove.
Did you remove the reed valve from the pair as well?

you can leave the stacks off if you wish, but they smooth the air flow into the throttle body and also compensate for the exhaust pipe length differences (hence why you have two different sizes). as for performance loss, only at the bottom end when air flow is slow and turbulant once you get up and into the 7k rpm area then they dont play too much into the performance, but below that you will notice sluggish response.

I would find some replacement stacks
